To them, the principal was properly dealing with a "moral" issue. The think homosexuality is something a person chooses, so if they'll just stop choosing it, everything will be fine.

The Bible only talks about homosexuality twice, and both times, the author is classifying as "sin" all sexual activity outside of marriage. In Leviticus, the "sin" of eating shrimp is of equal dignity. Fundies will eat pork and shrimp likes there's no tomorrow, quoting Leviticus the whole time, as authority for homosexuality. The same old book that tells them homosexuality is sin also tells them eating shrimp and pork are sins, also calls for stoning to death children who don't respect their parents.

Looking at the Bible is like looking at a Rorschach test. People find whatever it is they want to find in it.
