There are real people here who are in a PANIC about what the next couple weeks of our lives are going to be like. We are DREADING a repeat of the worst thing most of us have ever gone through. How about a little sensitivity?
At least 50% of DU has been unbelievably great about this--much better than the 1% of the RW sites. But there's a contingency of people here that are more interested in the political ramifications of the storm, just like with Katrina. There's an even smaller, but real contingency that sees the whole region--whether because of perceived blackness, or red-neck ness, that sees us as "less than" and no qualms about talking about us as political pawns.
It goes a long way towards helping me understand how the Democratic response to Katrina was so WEAK AND PATHETIC, with NO FEAR of reprisal from their base.
