A World of Difference
Advertisements [?]
There is a world of difference between you and us.

We argue amongst ourselves over the best way to ensure a good life for the many.
You debate us in the hope of ensuring that the good life only belongs to the chosen few.

You call them what you perceive them to be: lazy, good-for-nothing, irresponsible Welfare Queens, in need of being wrenched off the communal teat.

We recognize them for what they are: the homeless, the poverty-stricken, the down-on-their-luck, in need of assistance to take their rightful place as part of the community.

Your world is black-and-white – and you place a high value on being the latter, espousing its superiority.

Our world is a tapestry – and we place a greater value on the strength of the fabric than the color of its individual threads, all the more appreciative of the beauty of its many hues.

You complain about not having what you want.
We champion those who don’t have what they need.

You lure the ignorant, and encourage them to remain so.
We appeal to the misinformed, and invite them to see the truth.

You prey on the frightened.
We encourage fearlessness.

You delight in the skewing of the truth.
We take joy in its dissemination.

You see Justice as a circuitous road – full of loopholes and excuses, a route best twisted to meet the needs of those who trod upon its well-worn path.

We see Justice as a straight but never narrow path – full of hope that wrongs will be righted; brilliantly lit every step of the way.

You shout the words of Christ from your pulpits, when convenient – and as suits your purpose.

We pray silently to the God we choose to embrace, each in our own way – as suits our individual beliefs, as we pursue the Higher Purpose that we find in caring for our fellow men.

You trot out the tired talking points, and proclaim them as new ideas.
We talk about ideas and invite discussion – and won’t tire of making that point.

You claim you want to take your country back.
We are determined to take our country forward.

You say No, you can’t.
We say Yes, we can.

You say We can stop you!
We say Take your best shot …

It’s our world now, it’s all about US – and you can talk to the hand (or from it, as the case may be). You can gather the disgruntled, (all six hundred of them) – the easily manipulated, the easily swayed. You can preach to them about all you’re doing – as they sit and watch you do nothing, other than that which benefits your own self-interests, your own agenda, your own ambitions – all to your own benefit.

You can raise your mis-spelled placards on the streets. You can throw your money-grubbing-fists into the air. You can appeal to the narrow minded, the bigots, the self-righteous, the malcontent. You can incite violence against your fellow citizens, and encourage hatred aimed at the world-at-large.

But you can’t escape the truth of the matter.

It’s a world of difference. And the days of your world are numbered – while the days of our world have just begun.

(It’s my birthday, and I’ll rant if I want to. I’m a little bit older – and, hopefully, a little bit wiser. I know the world moves slowly towards the ultimate goal of being a better place. But it moves along, nonetheless – and, despite all obstacles, is steadfast in reaching its destination.)
