Even if it DIDN'T do shit to your machine on its own, WHEN it decides to do it is going to fuck you so hard you wish you hadn't been born. If you're five minutes from out the door and have to print that report you just finished, it will decide that's a PERFECT time to tell you not to turn off your machine and that it may have to reboot a few times to install the update. Then there's the time you're watching a DVD with your S.O. in bed and it is just approaching the climax scene - another perfect time. Auto-update is evil.
