52. Tut. Tut. Tut. No Carter bashing allowed!

He was terrible at messaging, that I will admit, but that is where I draw the line. He had all the right ideas at the right time. His plans to promote solar power, energy efficiency in buildings and appliances, and his plan to get us 100% free of foreign oil was the right plan for America. He would have had us 100% energy independent by the year 2000. But, instead, we got Ronny Raygun who immediately removed the solar panels from the White House, gave the oil companies everything they asked for on the promise that they could "drill us out of the problem" which has been proven false and ludicrous. Thanks to Ronny, we use more than twice the foreign oil as a percentage than we did when he was elected. Nice job, dumbass!

It was "morning in America" but let's not mention the fact that we'll all be dead within 100 years because of the rampant pollution and climate change, resulting in catastrophes on such a scale we could never have even imagined before --and it's only going to get worse in the decades to come. Oh, yeah. Reagan was the best President we've ever had! Scratch that. Make that the biggest dumbass ever...

Edited to add:
You are right, though. He had two directions he could go and he chose to go to the right instead of channeling FDR and taking on the psycho right with guts and gusto and a forceful attitude. He should have been pounding the Dems in the House and Senate for their inaction on Progressive legislation. He should have been talking about another New Deal. Instead he gave us all a RAW DEAL.
