Our Soon To be Governor Rick Scott's dream CUTs

for our not so sunshine state.

TALLAHASSEE — Shut down A.G. Holley Hospital in Lantana. Privatize Florida's three state mental health hospitals. Combine the departments of transportation, community affairs and environmental protection.

Those are among the recommendations Gov.-elect Rick Scott's health and human services and regulatory reform transition teams made public Monday after Scott met with his advisers on the first day of a three-day briefing.

Scott, who takes office on Jan. 4, will hear the findings and suggestions from his nearly 200 transition team members through Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale.

Suggestions from Scott's health and human services team, headed by former Florida Agency for Health Care Administration Secretary Alan Levine, included closing A.G. Holley Hospital, the nation's only tuberculosis hospital, and relocating its patients.

Other recommendations in the 68-page briefing include merging the Department of Health and the Agency for Health Care Administration; severely restricting the services county health departments provide; and privatizing the state's mental hospitals for the criminally insane.
