Feminists Face Tough Times After Election
they want us to be Stepfords....like Laura ....

NEW YORK - America's feminist leaders and their critics agree on at least one current political fact: These are daunting times for the women's movement as it braces for another term of an administration it desperately wanted to topple.

"The next four years are going to be tough, so we must be tougher," National Organization for Women president Kim Gandy recently told supporters. "Our health, our rights, and our democracy are teetering on the brink."

NOW, the Feminist Majority Foundation and numerous like-minded groups campaigned zealously against President Bush, contending that his economic agenda would inflict disproportionate harm on women and that his potential judicial appointments could jeopardize abortion rights.

1. Girls unite
Tell your husband/SO "You are for me or against me." Then do some hard bargaining.

Girls got the power!

7. No, just dump that chump
Drop that drip, shed that schmuck. If he supports what that gang of thieves is doing in the world, he's going to be bad for your head in the long run.

3. One of the 14 points of Fascism
5.) Rampant Sexism
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy

6. Can I hear an Amen
You've got that right. This was a agenda a long time in the making and executing. They've got the perfect puppet in King George. These are going to be difficult times. We will need to work diligently and smartly if we want to hold back the backlash of Religious Right. These people want this county to go way back in time. I imagine they would strip women of the vote if they thought they could get away with it. Scary times indeed. We must stand firm and stay resolute.

8. The problem is that so many women have drunk the cool aid. That is why you
hear so many wanting to reach out to "pro life "Democrats. Gag! Women themselves are not united and have no idea what it would be to live without these rights. Most of the fundies feel they don't need them anyway. Also remember this is the country that never passed the Equal Rights Amendement.

9. I do think women are up against a lot of unknowns--coming out as
"change in rules" from the administion and its departments--without any input from the public.

11. Believe it or not, it was possible for women to live and be happy

before abortion was legalized. Many of us did.

12. I saw some bad stuff....and not everyone lived to be happy
DemBones... It was an awful time for many females. Either the "shot gun" wedding, the "back alley abortion," or shunted away to the "homes" where you disappeared and left the baby and then tried to go back to your "old life." The shame was never on the father...it was on the female for "getting in trouble."

I've avoided the threads about this...even though I'm female. But, women were not okay before abortion was legalized. And, even today...it's the female who takes the birth control, or has the abortion, the adoption or the child. At least abortion evened the odds a bit for the young, the very poor, the raped, the innocent.

I would never want things to go back to the way they were before..

And...you are one of my favorite posters on DU..so I'm just making this as a comment. I don't discuss this...because what I saw has stayed with me my whole life...and I can't get into arguments about it, because I'm convinced...so it wouldn't do any good...

Peace!

13. Ah, for those good old happy days
of back alley abortions, coat hangers, and the risk of a grisly death.
Glad you were happy. And, apparently, oblivious to the suffering of others.
