Suicide bomber attacks Australian embassy

A car bomb exploded outside the cement blast barriers of the Australian Embassy in Baghdad today, witnesses said, killing at least one Iraqi and wounding seven.

The blast rocked the capital around 7:00am (1500 AEDT) and was followed about a half hour later by another explosion, which sent a column of black smoke rising above the eastern part of the city.

There was no word on what caused that blast.

Officials at the Australian Embassy could not immediately be reached.

A policeman on the scene, who refused to give his name, told The Associated Press that at least two people were killed and four wounded in the embassy attack.

He didn't give the nationalities of the victims.

update: apparently 6 killed, all of them Iraqi. No Australian personnel were injured in the blast. John Howard's lucky dice roll true yet again...

No place is safe there, particularly outside bremmerville. Battle dressed marines can't even go out without losing one or two.
