Houston Officers Can Now Get Naked For Prostitutes

HOUSTON -- Some undercover cops in Houston are now uncovered.

A Harris County prosecutor said Houston police are now allowed to undress as part of prostitution investigations. Some hookers demand johns take off all their clothes before negotiating a price. They mistakenly believe a real cop won't get naked.

Police Chief Harold Hurtt said officers are now able to take off their clothes in an effort to persuade suspected prostitutes to negotiate sex acts. During a four-month sting operation that ended with 56 arrests in November, some undercover vice officers dropped their covers altogether.

"Someone had to do something to shut these places down," said Harris County Assistant District Attorney Ted Wilson. "It was just so widespread. It had almost gotten in your face."

I'm a hardcore vinyl/lp/record collector and spend more time than any sane human does in thrift stores. A few years ago, I spotted an album by Chuck Ohman from the mid 60's or thereabouts, trying to fashion himself as a kind of Christian Herb Alpert (he sometimes plays trumpet on Van Impe's show). It was too funny, 60's "mod" threads, daft poses from the man himself on the cover, etc. Also, Jack and Rexella have many lp releases, my favorite being their (then current) take on 60's rock music and youth culture where they actually name check Rob Tyner and the MC5. The name of the lp escapes me at this time...

All this aside, I have to admit that my best friend/roommate was an escort during our college years and she set donation prices before the date. The money had to be set on a desk in an envelope, no questions asked, before anything even started. Then, she would keep repeating time and time again how it was a date and if things happened then it was ok with her, etc. etc. She never got caught, paid her way through undergrad and law school and paid for a major portion of her underinsured mom's dialysis and subsequent kidney transplant. She is now a successful attorney and I am one of only two people privy to her colorful past.

However, this thing seems to punish the women (prostitutes) and not the johns (cops or whoever else).

But the hookers and drug dealers have always been the ones to act, not react. They figure out a way to get around the law, the cops get the law changed and then the hookers figure out a way to get around the new law. For one group, it is about survival, for the other, it is about oppression.

The cops are only chasing the street whores anyway. The established whores work in houses that service politicians, judges, cops etc. Those whores get a free ride. The corporate whores walk, it's the street whores that get busted. Primarily because they are a nuisance.
