Principal bans 'anti-military,' 'anti-American' materials
A Cookeville (Tenn.) High School administrator said Veterans for Peace and a Quaker group can't come back into his school with materials considered ''anti-American'' and ''anti-military.''

The groups plan to go before the Putnam County school board tomorrow with claims that they're being denied privileges afforded to other organizations, including military recruiters.

The war veterans, some who also belong to the Quaker group, were allowed into the school during a September fair for organizations. They set up a table with books about U.S. wars and offered photocopied fliers and pamphlets from both organizations about the war in Iraq and military careers and alternatives.

Quaker and veteran Hector Black said several students stopped by the table and asked questions, and a couple of teachers even thanked them for coming.

So I will say what I said there....What job are they offering. As I recall, that was the purpose of job fairs and the like. The military isn't allowed in because they represent a n ideal...they are also a job.

Do you really want opinion groups to have access to our public schools? What about the right to life groups or the KKK? How about those that think gays can be "rehabilitated"? Free access?

I don't. If you are offering a job, fine.

job it is to save them? There are people who work full time on this. And it is quite rewarding, spiritually.

7. How much are they paying to save lives?
I need to get groceries and am a little short. Did you read the rest of the post about all the groups that would then have the same argument for access to our young?

10. Not as much as they pay to take them.
And no, I don't buy your analogy. KKK and racist organizations should not be recruiting in our schools. And neither should the military.
And neither should peace groups.

There, that settles that.

11. A few years back
My hometown (PA) had something like this go down...

The KKK wanted to use the school for a rally... the school board tired to stop them, but failed... So the KKK had the rally at my Jr. High. They clan said they let the girl scouts use the building, why not them

12. Sadly, I have to agree w/your school
if they let one private group hold a rally, they're obligated to let any group that applies hold one, as long as they're secular.

14. But....
The KKK is a terrorist organization and always has been, despite what their highway litter adoption wing would have you believe. Should the ETA or al Qaida also be allowed to hold rallies in schools?

17. We have free speech here
if ETA or al-Qaida wants to hold a rally emphasizing the non-terror aspects of their organizations, then, legally, they have that right.

Schools and city councils could prohibit them from holding rallies, but, so long as they allow rallies by Christian groups and the military, there's definitely descrimination going on.

13. PROBLEM with your assertion--it was NOT a JOB FAIR
The Association of Christian Athletes weren't hiring, and they were there. It was a fair for ORGANIZATIONS--NOT a JOB fair. At least that's what the article stated.

Apparently, some of the parents objected to UN AMERICAN and ANTI MILITARY quotes in their literature:

"Black said Shank specified some quotes in the literature that he objected to, including one from a 1953 speech by President Eisenhower that said, ''Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed. Those who are cold and are not clothed.''

The school is fucked up, the principal is fucked up, and they are practicing lameass selective enforcement. The principal should be fired...but horsewhipped first, the dumb jerk.

6. In the Principal's defense
it sounds like he's having to deal with some neanderthal parents. I don't at all like the idea of this group's material being prohibited, but sometimes principals are stuck in a hard place.

Sad, though, that the promotion of peace is now considered "offensive."

24. Fight long and hard.
It's the only way to depose these fools who are trying to usurp power in our system

In my book this Principal would be serving, if found guilty, a 10-20 year sentence for treason against the United States Constitution.

27. Many great teachers have moved on to administration...
but somewhere in between they go to "stupid" school. Once they leave the classroom most leave their creativity behind. Soon they discover the "path of least resistance."

(Of course, this does not apply to any principals who are on the DU. They obviously are a cut above.)

20. Bans foreign exchange students as "unamerican."
there's this crazy nazi college republican newspaper on my campus. Last month (yes, month, it takes a long time to publish a newspaper when you only type with your pointer fingers) the headline read "Some Foreign Students May Be Unamerican."

I thought, "no shit, Adolf." And some American students are probably unchinese too.

CHECK OUT THE ANTI-AMERICAN QUOTES:

Black said Shank specified some quotes in the literature that he objected to, including one from a 1953 speech by President Eisenhower that said, ''Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed. Those who are cold and are not clothed.''

Another quote from an unknown author said, ''The Army that can defeat terrorism doesn't drive Humvees, or call in airstrikes. ... It undermines military dictatorship and military lobbyists. It subverts sweatshops and special interests.''

County School Director Michael Martin said, ''Parents found the materials to be anti-American, anti-military. That didn't come from us. That came from the parents who saw the materials when their kids brought it home.''

IT's OFFICIAL! PEACE IS ANTI-AMERICAN!
