Spain may train Iraqi police

Spain's Socialist government, which withdrew Spanish troops from Iraq after coming to power, is now willing to train Iraqi police, but only in Spain.

Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos told parliament the intent is to help Iraq consolidate the rule of law, the EFE news agency reported.

He said in addition to police officers, agents and functionaries might also receive training in Spain. The Socialist government came to power last April after the Madrid bombings in March.
