Radio host's words punished
Edited on Tue Sep-23-03 05:37 AM by LosinIt
RW Clear Channel Hate Radio

http://www.democratandchronicle.com/news/0923521SO9F_lons23_news.shtml

A local conservative radio host was suspended for two days Monday after he made on-air comments that alluded to Rochester’s African-American mayor as a “monkey” and “orangutan.”

snip

Lonsberry made two controversial remarks recently that alluded to Mayor William A. Johnson Jr.’s campaign for Monroe County executive.

Late last month, Lonsberry made the first comment after an orangutan briefly escaped from a cage at the Seneca Park Zoo.

“Headline: Orangutan escapes at zoo, runs for county executive. Fascinating stuff,” Lonsberry said.

On Thursday, Lonsberry played what he said was the last caller of his show. Music that suggested a jungle scene with monkey sounds was then heard.

Lonsberry responded, “Freakin’ monkeys loose up at the zoo again. That’s really fine, really fine. Yeah, yeah, and he’s running for county executive. What is with that? I think we better go now.”

This guy is a such a jerk. Unfortunately, this is the local AM station so whenever we have a power outage, they have they most info and we are forced to listen to this guy's drivel to find out what is happening. He should have been fired immediately after the first incident, but they let him slide.

1. Clear Channel got thier marching order during the war run-up...
The rheotoric was incredible...all lies all the time...no questions allowed....don't invoke people into thought or debate.

Just drink the cool aid.

Thier radio hosts were nothing but propaganda .... hate speech and sold the war.

Case closed.

3. It should get national attention, but it won't
They will also probably attempt to let this loser slide, but I hope that Mayor Johnson doesn't let it happen.

4. If you knew Lonsberry..................
you'd know what a putz he really is. I was originally from the Rochester area, and he's the local Republinazi whose show leads into Rush.
First off, the guy talks exactly like Flanders on, "The Simpsons". To a tee folks. It's so funny listening to him because the intonations and phraseology are exactly like Ned Flanders. He's been divorced twice, his last marriage lasting I believe, one week.
He's another of these "rugged individualists" who claim the moral high ground and look upon progressives with disdain. However, his personal life is in direct conflict (as usual with these types) to that which he preaches.
That being said, Lonsberry is just your normal, garden variety wingnut who wouldn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. A two day suspension is nothing more than a slap on the wrist to this cretin. Clear Channel has again shown their true colors.
Mayor Johnson has been a great Mayor fo the City of Rochester. He had a vision that rebounded the Rochester economy and prevented it from becoming another rust belt cow town. Like every other city, county, state etc. there are budget shortfalls now and the local Repubs are exploiting that. Of course the fact tha their Chimp in Chief is presiding over the worst budget shortfall in history escapes their keen scrutiny.

5. You think this is bad?
You should hear the guy in Boston, Jay Severin, who regularly describes Hillary Clinton as creeping slime, and fat lying bitch; as muslim immigrants as filth, and democrats as socialistic thieves. The Democratic party is always labelled the "Democrat Party" - repuke-speak for democRAT party.

I hate his fucking guts, but apparently he gets good ratings, and he's on FM - Clear Channel (surprise, surprise).

13. Jay Severin was notorious before he went to Boston...
While he was a fill-in host at WOR in NYC on a day when President Clinton was giving a State of the Union address, he said he hoped that some "ancestors of John Wilkes Booth" would be in the gallery that night. (He seemed to mix up ancestors with descendants.)

I don't know if the Secret Service ever interviewed him, but I certainly hope they did.

At the time he was also a regular commentator on MSGOP, and I know that many complaints demanding his firing were made to them...complaints that often included a link to WOR's site, where you could listen to an archived copy of Severin's remarks. After all, if a liberal made similar comments about the squatter in President Gore's house, they'd not only be fired, they'd also have their career destroyed.

Also, Severin regularly appeared in MSGOP's chat room, and when he was there, some people would bring up the WOR remarks or paste the URL for the audio clip...and they were immediately banned by MSGOP staff.

17. I heard Severin while driving from maine to NY.
You could tell he was a rethug from his writing on msnbc, but he didn't seem outrageous...

Then I hear this crazy guy on the radio "Al Whore" this, and "Al Whore" that. Then I find out.... Jay Severin. What a piece of crap (sincere apologies to actual pieces of crap)

6. I don't have the stomach...
to listen to the RW nutzoids. They make me so angry. And fearful too... It was RW radioshow hosts in Tennessee who brought together over 1000 anti-tax protestors (in an HOUR) TO STONE THE LEGISLATIVE BUILDING WHEN a Repug governor called a special session to JUST DISCUSS raising taxes. This is a tactic we're going to see more of, especially if the Repugs think they're in trouble. The militias are coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I heard about what Lonsberry said about the Rochester Mayor (who is running for county executive), I was shocked. But then I thought, this guy won't get fired. He has been an establishment in this area (on both radio and TV) for a long time.

I was very glad to hear that he got fired. What a peice of shit he his. No better than Rush. His appology was an insult. I paraphrase this.

"I am sorry for any remarks taken as Racist. I am not a Racist. Remember Racisim is in the eye of the beholder, not in the heart of the speaker."

So he is basically saying that racism is the problem of the people who are the target of racism.

Who else is in this area. Give me a shout out.

Cheers
Drifter

20. I guess I'm doubly blessed, eh? He lives (or lived) in my hometown of
Mt. Morris (Birthplace of the author of the Pledge, no less.) And to boot, I believe he lives in the actual house where Francis Bellamy was born, I wonder what prompted him to move there. The house isn't all that great.

I always thought he was a joke and it was all an act. However, I don't get WHAM very clearly in my apartment because I live opposite Pinnacle Hill, and there is a constant buzz on my radio. His one wife was on the town council in Mt. Morris where I understand he wasn't the most popular person at the open meetings. :hi:

Lonsberry has increased in shrillness, jabbering up and down in rather atavistic fashion himself in timed goosestep with the rising backflow of the American rightist septic flood over the years. There is another columnist(Curt Smith) who seemed obviously part of another move to shove aside Republican anti-war voter Amo Houghton for yet another callow shill from the extreme right.

All I can think of is these guys in the minor leagues want to be called up to the majors and be spared reporting on local sporting events and mom and pop human interest stories. They get no traction in upstate New York except with an acrid acid crowd of unempowered white thugs. The pity is they have nothing worth selling other than spew gratification and if the whole national team above comes crashing down the way it deserves their brilliant career moves as hatefilled blowhards(possibly a pose but who cares) will leave them in a bitter segregation of their own choosing.

Outside of this cheap drama they never have anything memorable or substantive to say. It beats me why the local papers tolerate this mawkish college of pundits with little real following and get smarter people who do some real jounralistic work for real people. Jabbering for attention will only get you canned from your unmerited day job guys.

Stick to the trout derbys.

16. Clear Channel
A few years ago I actually worked for Clear Channel in the IT department. Man is that place scary. This was before they bought the concert promotion wing and the billboard division was still mostly separate from the CC Radio division.

Their corporate policy is pretty much the same as the crap they spew on their stations. Not a pretty picture. I am really glad I don't work there anymore.

18. I heard this today
Awesome! To hell with that piece of crap. I share a room at work with a WHAM listener, so every day after Wease is over it gets switched to Loserberry. It sounds like he may not come back at all (hoping....).

Man, the picture in the DNC link is priceless; a strange mix of Flanders and tucker Carlson.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of freaks out here that support this nutjob....

19. What about Severin, Boston Hate Radio
I remember the guy a few months back referring to Iraqi's as "dirty, inferior people and that we should nuke Baghdad before losing one US soldiers life. He also referred to Iraqi's as "sand monkeys". Can somebody do something about this, the guy amazes me, it is on FM, 96.9 in Boston of all places during drive time. Somebody needs to take that station down.
