Canadians give Martin big thumbs up on BMD stand on eve of summit with Bus
OTTAWA (CP) - Canadians are giving Prime Minister Paul Martin an overwhelming thumbs up for his refusal to join the U.S. missile defence project, a new poll suggests.

The numbers offer some vindication for Martin as he heads into a meeting Wednesday with U.S. President George W. Bush armed with Canadian public sentiment on his side. The prime minister angered the White House and drew scorn from critics at home, but two-thirds of poll respondents - 57 per cent compared to 26 per cent - supported him, according to the survey by Decima Inc.

A Canada-U.S.-Mexico summit in Texas will be the first meeting between Martin and Bush since last month, when the prime minister tried informing the president of his decision and waited days before having his phone call returned.

The Decima poll indicates Martin would have flown into a public opinion hurricane had he decided to take part in Bush's missile program.

(The poll also shows it is bush that is the problem not the US as a whole which shoots down the 'anti-US' crap spewed by the likes of Hannity and Limbaugh.)

1. What stupid threat do you think Bush will make this time?
You just know he will. He can't resist.

2. I just adored reading the newspapers when I was in Canada last month.
They are so politely anti-bush that I actually enjoyed reading the paper. They also wrote in depth articles and made corrections when needed. For that and many other reasons I hated coming home to Texas.

to cover the 'summit' and the intent is to ensure Canadians receive the truth instead of the US media propaganda and the Canadian talking heads have been very clear that is their intent.

For the most part, our media still report the news and doesn't propagandize it and I am grateful for that.

Edited to correct grammatical error.

4. Relations with Canada still 'very strong,' Bush says
During the summit, the three leaders announced they would pursue an integrated security strategy that would improve screening of travellers and cargo entering the continent.

"In a rapidly changing world, we must develop new avenues of co-operation that will make our open societies safer and more secure, our businesses more competitive, and our economies more resilient," the leaders said in a joint statement.

On security, the leader agreed to implement common border security strategies and also focus on "improvements in aviation and maritime security."

"We are launching the next generation of our common security strategy to further secure North America and ensure the streamlined movement of legitimate travellers and cargo across our shared borders," they said.
