Senate wants Iraqi invite for US troops (We weren't invited?)

Big News Network.com Saturday 23rd April, 2005 (UPI)

Top Senate leaders want the United States to seek a formal invitation from the new Iraqi government to keep American troops in the country.

Senators John Warner, R-Va., and Carl Levin, D-Mich., who head the Senate Armed Services Committee, asked Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to discuss the matter with the Iraqi government. They contend that if U.S. and other foreign forces remain in Iraq at the request of the government they will be less likely to be seen as occupiers and more as a helpful security presence
more...

Oh that will make it better Occupy first then get the invitation !!!

2. What the hell is Levin doing
participating in this nonsense?

This has all the warm fuzziness of a confession at the end of a gun.

8. I'm not sure, it looks strange to me.
But it may signal a significant change in an otherwise passive Republican Senate. Imagine a ranking Senate Republican trying to call shots in foreign affairs just a few years ago! They gave Bush a blank check in Iraq and told him he could do what he wanted. It is still a bit Orwellian though: Occupation by Invitation, War is Peace... you know the rest. :eyes:

5. Sorta like the Afghans invited the Russians.
As a matter of fact, exactly like that! Have our puppets "invite" us to stay in their country. I'm sure the Fox News crowd will believe it !! :lmao:

10. That's the one question
I'd love to hear Helen Thomas (or anyone else, for that matter) ask him in a press conference. It's unanswerable.

12. The 'government' lives in the Green Zone
They are U.S. puppets.

Of course 'the government' will ask us to stay, because if we leave, they are dead.

Bottom line: The puppet government does not represent Iraqis. It represents U.S. interests.
