Florida House passes measure regulating outsourcing

TALLAHASSEE -- State agencies could outsource services only when they're getting a good deal -- either by saving money or by receiving improved services -- under a measure approved Tuesday by the House.

``We should only privatize if the private sector can do it cheaper or better or both,'' said Rep. Loranne Ausley, D-Tallahassee. ``We cannot afford another debacle.''

Efforts to privatize state payroll, computer and other services in recent years have been marked by cost overruns and complaints about performance.
(snip)

Bush urged lawmakers to avoid ``requirements that become so burdensome that they go beyond oversight into meddling.'' He did not say whether he would support the measure.

2. They only did this
because they privatized the state's payroll services and it was a major mess. I guess these guy's don't like when they don't get paid on time.

3. "beyond oversight into meddling"
There will be NO meddling in business' business on behalf of the people of Florida! (They prefer to meddle in the bedroom, not the boardroom)

4. check out what has happened since they outsourced health care
at the Lee County jail. It is a terrifying situation for anyone who needs life saving drugs. I had a friend who was put in there on a Friday because she did not pay a large sum of fines. She couldn't get out until Monday when her family could post bail. She is diabetic and did not receive one insulin medication the entire weekend.

A lot more here including deaths.

6. Wasted, loaded bill: One quote says it all:
"We should only privatize if the private sector can do it cheaper or better or both"

Waste of time and taxpayer money if they're going to mince words and give false hope. More companies do accounting offshore. Much cheaper. Also much more open for theft, but that's not our problem. :eyes:

7. "outsource services only when they're getting a good deal"
Uh, Isn't that the very definition of outsourcing?

My company isn't sending thousands of Jobs to India on a lark.

By "regulating" I think they mean "encouraging".
