GOP apologizes, to pay Dems (a small local victory)
Edited on Wed Apr-27-05 06:29 AM by cmd
The banner headline today warmed my soul. It's a small local victory that demonstrates the true morals of the Republican party.

http://www.timesreporter.com/left.php?ID=40998&r=0

The Tuscarawas County Republican Party has issued an apology for false statements made in the November 2003 election campaign and has agreed to pay $1,000 to the county Democratic Party.
(snip)
As part of the settlement reached between the parties Monday, the complaint was dismissed and the money was paid to the Democratic Party’s attorney, Rick Brunner of Columbus, for fees incurred in bringing the complaint. Attorney Sarah Morrison of Columbus represented the defendants.
(snip)
The apology states, in part:
“The Tuscarawas County Republican Party agreed to apologize as part of the resolution reached in the Election Commission matter. … In campaign advertising, … claims were made about a ‘300 percent utility rate increase’ and that water and sewer rates were ‘nearly tripled.’ The Tuscarawas County Republican Party has acknowledged that the claims were false and not accurate. The Tuscarawas County Republican Party publicly apologizes for the use of the false and misleading statements.”
(snip)
“It’s why people don’t want to serve on the local level,” he said, mentioning city councils, school boards and village offices. “Things like this – vicious negative ads attacking individuals and outright lies – discourage people from sticking out their necks and getting involved.

edit: By the way, we won the election as well.

1. If they won the election they don't care
They would rather lie, get into office then apologize. What would be nice is if they lost the election and did this. What would be nicer is if this suit was settled before the election so people could truly see how the republicans are. Now they are two years from the next election and people will forget. But it is nice to know we won and we can bring this up in the next election and use it to frame the republican integrity and "culture of life"

2. Sorry but this kind of pandering....
Really should be scrutinized under a microscope, because many republicans will do anything neccesary to get the votes they need.

Half of these crazed neocons and fake democrats are looking to put some real crazy proposals through the pike, and the GOP especially will pander anything neccesary to get it.

Remember if the GOP goes against its own party, it goes against Karl Rove and gets prepared for a destructive smear block.

It's a local committee though which is interesting.

4. Nice! This case is a good way to begin to stop the lies.
If they lie and the lie gets ignored, there is nothing to stop them from continuing the practice. This settlement can be used the next time they start to lie.
