http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=731076

HOUSTON May 5, 2005 — Two people were shot and killed Thursday morning in an oil services company office building, police said.

The shooting happened at about 8:30 a.m. in the Cameron building, said Houston Police Department spokeswoman Johanna Abad. The building houses a division of Cooper Cameron oil services company.

Abad said she didn't know whether a suspect was in custody, and no other information was immediately available. Employees could be seen milling outside the building.

5. just thought of this...

I work for one of the largest (if not THE largest) oilfield equipment manufacturer, down the road from Cooper Cameron. Apparently a few years ago, before my group moved in, our building was shot up from the freeway in front of our building.
Now every window facing that freeway is bulletproof and all of the walls have thick steel plates in them, just in case.
We do not know if it was random shootings or related to the company, but each time it happened it was in the middle of the night when nobody was at work.

3. This could have happened for any reason, like in any large city.
If it was an employee or ex-employee, then maybe oil company employees are feeling more pressure these days, though.

4. I am about 1/2 mile from there...

It is not in downtown, it is out on the west beltway by I-10 (for the Houston people), about 15 miles from downtown, but that is a minor detail.
Apparently it was a murder/suicide between a Cooper Cameron employee and a contract employee.
Don't know much more than that about the motive yet.

"Houston Police Capt. Dwayne Ready said a man in his 50s or 60s shot a man who also was in his 50s or 60s, then shot himself. Ready said up to three shots were fired, but it wasn't yet clear how many times each man was shot.

"It appears we have a murder-suicide,'' Ready said."
