A former official from Saddam Hussein's now-defunct Baath party accused of masterminded a string of insurgent attacks in Iraq has been arrested.
"The terrorist Abdel Hadi Juburi was arrested near the city of Mosul following a tip from citizens," a government statement said Thursday.
"This individual was one of the leaders of reconstituted Baath cells in Mosul and planned several terrorist operations against the Iraqi people and government," it added.
The Iraqi authorities allege Juburi has been in contact with another former Baath leader, Mohammed Yunis Ahmed, who has a million-dollar bounty on his head.
On Wednesday, the government announced the arrest of a nephew of Saddam Hussein, Ayman Sabawi, suspected of helping to finance the insurgency.
