Authorities confirm Limbaugh drug investigation
Authorities investigate claim that Limbaugh purchased painkillers
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/state/6917013.htm

Authorities in Palm Beach County are investigating a former housekeeper's claim that radio talk personality Rush Limbaugh purchased thousands of highly addictive painkillers through the black market, law enforcement sources confirmed.

<snip>

Limbaugh's former housekeeper, Wilma Cline, told authorities and the tabloid that she supplied OxyContin and Hydrocodone to Limbaugh for four years, sometimes participating in exchanges in a Denny's parking lot. Cline said she was outfitted with a surveillance wire before two of the encounters.

Sources said the investigation is connected to a bust that closed a Lake Worth pharmacy in May. World Health Association is accused of illegally supplying customers more than 450,000 Hydrocode tablets, a potent and addictive drug similar to OxyContin.

<snip>

Premier Radio Networks, which syndicates the Rush Limbaugh Show, syndicated in more than 650 markets, issued a statement from Limbaugh early Thursday saying: ``I am unaware of any investigation by any authority involving me. No government representative has contacted me directly or indirectly. If my assistance is required, I will, of course, cooperate fully.''

Note: Rush never denyed buying drugs illegally.

2. And I thought I saw another thread earlier today saying
Lush had hired a lawyer today. Was that before or after he made the statement that he was unaware of the investigation?

3. In a just, rational, free society, Mr. Limbaugh wouldn't have to...
deny buying drugs illegally. Our insane drug prohibition laws have caused far more harm than any cuurently illegal drugs. Note, I didn't say any potentially illegal drugs, because fried food or coffee could be next.

19. The government shouldn't control what we ingest!
Adults should be free to take any drugs they want without government interference. So should pigboy.

That being said, Limbaugh has been a leader in calling for the arrest of people who have done nothing more than he has. Because of his hypocrisy, I can't help getting a little thrill from his situation.

May this downfall lead to positive changes in the attitudes of the ditto-heads when it comes to victimless crimes.

25. Just so!
And if I want to ingest tainted meat that's being sold as wholesome, well, then I should just hire my own food inspectors! Or if my stepdaughter is determined to take thalidomide while she's pregnant, it's nobody's business why her baby was born with flippers instead of fully formed hands. Damn government anyway.

23. I don't agree.
Vicodin addiction is a real problem. Same with Oxycontin. I don't necessarily think that making these things available freely without any restriction is the solution. People with Vicodin addiction often take over a dozen pills a day and suffer serious health problems. If Limbaugh is addicted to these things, he has a serious problem that needs medical attention.

15. Damn!
I asked that VERY question today: wonder if this has anything to do with his (tragic) hearing loss and his (miraculous) recovery? Methinks it was just...recovery, as in, rehab.

7. Hydrocodone?
All I have to do is call up my DR. to get my prescrption filled at ANY time. I sure someone like him could get a prescription filled at any time by any dr. Why would he need to buy them illegally? Now if it was something like crack or heroin I could believe it.

10. do you have a chronic med problem?
What state do you live in? In some states, these prescriptions are only filled for a seven day period, on "Triplicate" forms. Very restricted. My husband's a doctor and he said that he could lose his license for indiscriminately prescribing such drugs. By the way, Oxy is the same drug Winona Ryder was arrested for shoplifting with, and the doctor who was illegally prescribing it fled the country after her arrest.

21. Well, because it's illegal
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 11:37 AM by dirk
to prescribe controlled drugs to people who don't need them. And in the case of oxycontin, a written record documenting the patient's medical need has to be kept. I haven't kept up with the law recently in this area, so that may be true for hydrocodone now too, because it is so widely abused. If your doctor will prescribe it for you "any time" and you don't need it, your doctor is committing a felony and could lose his license.

Edit: apologies, I see you posted your reason for needing the drug while I was busy typing. Didn't mean to imply anything. You have a medical need; Rush did not, however.

24. Vicodin addicts.
People addicted to Vicodin need a whole lot more Vicodin to feel OK than any doctor would prescribe. That's why he'd get it illegally, if true.

8. tomorrow's show
If he addresses the drug story, it will turn out to be
typical Natl. Enq. garbage. A lie would lose him most of his listeners and advertisers.

If he avoids the topic, it's likely true.

9. Several years ago Rush said (while spewing his asspinion of drug laws)
That drug laws (specifically those relating to crack/coke) did not discriminate against African-Americans...that the solution wasn't changing or looking into the laws bias but, instead,to start arresting and jailing white people...

well...uh...reckon he still thinks that?

20. back when his hearing loss
first came out I was reading alt.rush-limbaugh or some rush usenet group.
At that time many people were saying he was an Oxyc addict, that it causes sudden hearing loss.
That idea was readily spoken back then!
