SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) - Clients of Charles Schwab Corp. said at a protest rally Thursday that they will take their business elsewhere unless the discount broker stops supporting Social Security privatization.

About 100 people attended the event, which took place outside Schwab's annual shareholder meeting in San Francisco and was arranged by the AFL-CIO, the largest union in the U.S.

Face masks of the company's eponymous founder were handed out as chants of "double-talk Chuck," "no crisis, just greed," and "Charles Schwab, we say no, privatization's gotta go" drifted through the drizzle.

"We cannot do business with a company that supports the privatization of Social Security," said Jennie Batiste, who chairs the investment committee of the California School Employees Association, a union representing about 230,000 support staff who work in the state's public schools and community colleges.

 to those that face down the crooks!

1. Good for them! If she's talking 230,000 investors, she's got clout.
I never thought to check with my broker, but I will! I'm not dumb enough to ask him, but I'll check online. He'd lie if it cost them anything///even though my mere pitance wouldn't matter a lick!

2. Add up the mere pittances from many and
pretty soon you're talking real money.

3. Probably an oxymoron, but are there "progessive" Brokerage Firms?
I've got an account with Morgan Stanley and would love to support a "progressive" company instead of those crooks.

5. Not a brokerage but Progressive Insurance
is, as its name implies: "progressive" according to what I've heard. Don't know enough to recommend the company but the ticker symbol is PGR.

10. This type of pressure is the only political power we have left
Even with the ballot gone, there are still important votes to cast.
