Moscow Times probes business dealings of North Carolina congressman
http://rawstory.com/aexternal/moscow_times_charles_taylor_525

A North Carolina congressman who once pushed for the creation of a home-mortgage program in Russia was quietly giving out loans with interest rates as high as 60 percent, the Moscow Times will report in Thursday's editions, RAW STORY has learned.

The Times will assert Congressman Charles Taylor's (R-NC) business partner is a former KGB officer who rose to general in the FSB (successor to the KGB), and who once held a job as head of economic security in the scandal-ridden post-Soviet bank SBS-Agro who collapse helped speed the Russian economic crisis of 1998.

The Times is also said to have discovered new elements in an older scandal that has received scant national attention. A bank Taylor founded and later ran became infamous as two of his close associates there pleaded guilty to bank fraud.

The paper will also name an investment firm not previously discovered by the press.

1. 60% interest rates? My god, this man has no shame.
Jesus would have thrown him out of the temple.
I hope that he burns in hell for this.
That's all I have to say.

9. Do you think school kids in Russia are now being taught
that the U.S.A. no longer has a free press? Remember how we were alwyas taught that about the U.S.S.R.

10. I know! It's all becoming some bad movie from years past. It would
have fit right in with a Rod Serling classic.

8. Charles Taylor (R-Brevard) is my Congressman.
Taylor owned the Blue Ridge Savings Bank. He has been named in a civil suit for improprieties regarding his affiliation with Blue Ridge Savings' Greer, SC, branch. Ironically, the Greer branch was the site of a brutal multiple murder of a bank employee and two customers during a bank robbery on May 16, 2003.

11. kickity kick-kick
I know Taylor's reputation. I went to Brevard College ('91). He ate at our dining hall every Sunday afternoon.

He's a scumbag.

14. His real-estate deals are legion.
His motto is "I don't sell, I buy." He owns thousands of acres in his district (mainly Transylvania County). He is the quintessential asshole!

13. Chainsaw Charlie...the lowest of the low
Sadly, he's my Congressman, too. He's a mudslinger who could almost put the Bush family to shame. He's a smug liar and a panderer to the far right tip of the wing of the Religious Reich.

He has been dogged by the Blue Ridge Savings debacle; his anti-environmentalism is threatening jobs in an area that depends on eco- and adventure tourism; large businesses have packed up and moved out of the country thanks to his love of cheap labor.

Sadly, his past election cycle our candidate, Patsy Keever, had a golden opportunity to go for the jugular. Instead, she and her campaign manager chose to play nice. Needless to say, she lost. No, not by much, but Taylor's phony smear ads did the trick and he slithered back in.

This guy is the worst of the worst of neocon slime. You can't imagine how much Western North Carolina Dems would love to see him crash and burn.

15. I considered running against Taylor.
Seriously. Then I remembered the Swift Boat Liars. You see, I am a semi-highly decorated Vietnam veteran. In other words, I would be the perfect target! No, I can't take that shit! Too bad. Sorry.

16. I'll believe it when I see it...
Taylor is a very influential congressman. He has avoided all inquiries into his doings and if they can hang this one on him I'll be surprised.

19. I remember reading that Ashcroft personally intervened
and stifled inquiries about Taylor. It will probably take someone outside the US to put together all the information.
