Argentine Pres To Visit Cuba In February

HAVANA (AP)--Greatly improved relations with Cuba have led to Argentine President Nestor Kirchner's decision to visit the island in February, Argentina's foreign minister says.

Foreign Minister Rafael Bielsa made the announcement late Monday, shortly before meeting with Cuban leader Fidel Castro. He also announced a series of bilateral visits in November and December aimed at improving economic ties.

Bielsa earlier Monday presented a new ambassador to Cuba to fill a post left open for two years. Buenos Aires' newly appointed representative immediately offered to mend damaged ties.

"We are under a strict directive that Cuban-Argentine relations deepen and bear fruit," said Ambassador Raul Abraham Taleb.
