Amid the heart-wrenching moments of devastation from deadly hurricane Katrina, there is at least one bright spot. Snowball, a small white dog taken by police from a sobbing little boy as he and his family were boarding a bus at the Superdome, has been located, USA Today reported Thursday.

Snowball is now at the Louisiana SPCA in Gonzalez and will be reunited with his owner, U.S. Department of Agriculture veterinarian Terry Conger told the newspaper. The Humane Society of the United States and the Louisiana SPCA rescued 43 dogs and 16 cats from the Superdome and delivered them to a temporary shelter at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center.

The dog is reported to be among an estimated 3,000 animals brought into the Louisiana shelter system.

When the police took the dog during the Superdome evacuation, the boy cried "Snowball! Snowball!" until he vomited. At the time authorities said they didn't know where the boy or his dog ended up.

5. Yes, they confirmed that this is really Snowball.

I'm a volunteer for a Bichon rescue group that also had many people looking for Snowball in La. too. I received a confirmation letter from them that it has been proven this little white dog is really Snowball. He is, BTW, a Bichon.

10. This report has been circulating for several days now

At the very least, it's certain that they have a dog named Snowball, as it was identified by a tag.

For myself, I'd like to see footage of the kid getting his dog back along with apologies from FEMA directors who couldn't manage to include people's pets in any sort of evacuation plan.

But then, maybe I shouldn't expect so much. After all...they didn't have a plan to evacuate people either. :grr:

I have to say though...The title of the article is "Has Snowball Been Found?" This makes me think that MSNBC isn't so sure either.

I've very glad to hear this and I know that little boy will be elated but I can't help thinking of the thousands of other "Snowballs" out there who have been separated from their families. It just breaks my heart to think of having to abandon my beloved pets to almost certain death - what a horrible thing to put people through! :cry:
