Weiner To Concede To Ferrer (NYC Mayoral Primary)
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 11:55 AM by brooklynite
September 14, 2005

Just hours after the polls closed with uncertainty about whether there would be a Democratic primary runoff in the race for mayor, NY1 has learned that second place finisher Anthony Weiner will concede to Fernando Ferrer.

Weiner is scheduled to make a formal announcement outside his childhood home in Brooklyn at noon Wednesday

When the polls closed last night, Ferrer appeared to fall just short of the 40 percent needed to avoid a runoff, with absentee ballots yet to be counted.

...snip...

Elections officials say that official results of the primary may not be known until next week.

After the final count, if Ferrer does not land 40 percent of the vote, by law, there will still be a runoff election.

Not that it's going to make a difference. Ferrer hasn't been able to create a compelling reason to vote for him, and coalition politics won't overcome Bloomberg's huge lead in the polls.

1. I think your fatalism is a bit unfounded.
Elections are tricky things, and you never know how things will swing.

Meanwhile the more times someone says "It doesnt matter, Bloomberg will win." the more likely it is to be true. It is a self-fufilling prophecy.

The fact of the matter is that Bloomberg may not win. Farrer could beat him. Stranger things not only have happened, they happen all the time in politics.

2. "I think your fatalism is a bit unfounded."
I don't.

Ferrer is a lightweight and NYC knows it.
This isn't even a contest. He'll be a sacrificial lamb.

But I'm just a blue meanie poisoning the well of optimism, and in the end it will be my fault Bloomberg won because I've put that negative thought out into the universe.

Shame on me and my pessimism!

Maybe if I had just crossed my fingers.

3. Nothing I said was optimistic so what are you talking about?
Ferrer is a lightweight and NYC knows it.

That is just silly. If that were true he wouldn't have won the primary.

This isn't even a contest. He'll be a sacrificial lamb.

That is a pointless exaggeration.

But I'm just a blue meanie poisoning the well of optimism, and in the end it will be my fault Blomberg won because I've put that negative thought out into the universe.

That isn't what I said. Thanks for the straw man.

Shame on me and my pessimism!

Your first post wasn't really pessimistic, more fatalistic. But this post of yours is indeed pessimism.

You can try to cast my realism as optimism if you really need to, but id appreciate it if you'd respond to what I actually write in the future.

4. Okay you win
I just can't muster the energy to debate such a topic as Ferrer having a chance.

I've got bigger fish to fry.

But keep the faith K-W.
And keep those fingers crossed!
Ferrer in a landslide!
WOOHOO!

5. Do you really think your rhetoric proves anything?
That anyone who read my post would buy into your straw man?

But yes, please go bother someone else with your rediculous saracasm and dishonest arguments.

8. Heh? Are You A New Yorker?

Bloomie ain't all that popular here, I'd say Ferrer's got a chance as he gets more name recognition and media coverage. It's too early to be calling it.

Yeah, Bloomie's definitely the favorite, but I think it can and will be much closer than the picture you paint.

Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 02:46 PM by TomPainesBones
you're questioning whether this person is a New Yorker and you don't even know that the election is less than two months away?

'The election is over a year away.'

WTF?
