TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Police used tear gas to break up a rock-throwing crowd that had gathered to protest a planned march Saturday by the National Socialist Movement.

At least two dozen members of a Roanoke, Va.-based group that calls itself "America's Nazi Party" had gathered at a city park just before noon and were to march under police protection.

Violence erupted about one-quarter of a mile away along the planned route. Baseball-sized rocks lay in the street as the gas dissipated.

Authorities announced through a loudspeaker on a police helicopter that they were canceling the march and telling people to leave the area...

A large group of young black men are breaking into and looting a building - maybe an aprtment building. Faux is reporting that only 2 blocks away, police on horseback and in cars, are just standing around.

Seems there was a protest against the Neo-Nazis and some anti-Nazi Skinheads showed up and then the people started coming out from around the neighborhood and everything got out of control.

and began yelling slurs on Tampa radio host Bob Lassiter's show (a few years back), Bob hung up and said, "And these people actually think they're superior to anybody?"

It turns out Socialists and anti-racist groups initiated the violence and encouraged local black men to join in.

Ford said the police were prepared for the march and had appealed to the community to ignore the Nazis, saying the situation turned into "exactly what they wanted."

White's group promotes itself as America's Nazi Party and said that it was protesting black gangs, which it claimed were harassing white residents.

The group said it had received support from Toledo's white citizens and community activists.

White blamed the riot on Toledo police, saying they intentionally changed the group's march route to make it collide with a counter-demonstration.

About 20 members from both the International Socialists Organization and One People's Project showed up, and some handed eggs to African-American residents to throw at the Nazi marchers, White said.

Ruiz-Krause blamed the mayhem on a disorganized group of the community's youth.

Most of the violence happened when residents, who had pelted the Nazi marchers with bottles and rocks, took out their anger on police, said Brian Jagodzinski, chief news photographer for CNN affiliate WTVG.

I find it interesting that these motherfuckers came all the way from Virginia. George Lincoln Rockwell's American Nazi Party is just an hour or two away in southeastern Michigan town of Westland.

expect was going to happen? The coloured community was going to set up lemonade stands to provide refreshments for the rally? They knew it was going to happen. I would be out there too with the protesters. Unfortunately, yes this is what they had hoped for, to get a rise out of these people and have them being seen as violent animals on national television. It is a sad situation. The ecomomic and employment in this country are declining by the day, and along with the oppression that is felt in many minority communities and the fact that Katrina bared to the whole world the state of the coloured communities, frusturation and anger are mounting so the response to this blatant act of racism is natural i think. If not then that would lower then chances of these people to be heard. Sure they can file complaints and crap but we all know it would not go anywhere, not in the state our governments, on all levels, are. Unfortunately, in an act of fighting racism and oppression, they look like the bad guys. It is just a sad situation to me.
