Israeli Arab among 57 killed in Amman triple suicide bombing (Al-Qaida)

An Israeli Arab businessman is one of at least 57 people killed in simultaneous suicide bombings at three hotels the Jordanian capital Wednesday night, the FOreign Ministry in Jerusalem said Thursday. Two high-ranking Palestinian security officials were also said to be among the dead.

Husam Fathi Mahajna, from the nothern town of Umm al-Fahm, was a guest at a wedding held at the Radisson Hotel and his body was taken to the Jordan University Hospital in Amman, where it was identified by a local friend.

The family of 40-year-old Mahajna were making their way to Amman on Thursday morning.

Al-Qaida in Iraq posted a statement in an Arabic Internet site in which it claimed responsibility for the bombings.

I'm not from the region, does anybody know if Israeli Arabs are not counted by the embassy as Israeli? Translation error or something? Would a west bank Israeli be referred to as "an Israeli arab", but not an Israeli?

The article was released BEFORE the discovery of the Israeli Arab. As Ha'aretz is notorious for updating their articles and not mentioning previous versions, that one section is likely to be changed.

So if they just left the Israeli Arab businessman behind like that when they might've had wind of something coming... ugh.

Note that this claim came from Juan Cole's site and I presume that this is NOT one of those little conspiracy stories (well, who am I to say they're made up at this point?) that go around after major attacks. I'm just saying, if both parts are true here, I imagine it shall become an object of rancor within Israel.

In one of those little mysteries that pops up so frequently in the Middle East, it transpires that Jordanian security operatives came to the Radisson earlier in the day and escorted Israeli tourists from the hotel. The Jordanian secret police are very good about penetrating these Islamist cells, and the logical conclusion is that they got wind of an attack specifically on Israelis, not realizing that the operatives intended to hit the hotels in general. (I misread this item the first time around. Sorry.)

12. Warning: How is this known - there was a similar lie about 911

that Jews were told not to go work that day. The 911 claim was absolutely NOT TRUE - many Jews died. As a member of the NYC Metropolitan area Jewish population, I can say as fact therewas no warning and had there been it would have been given to the police and to the press. Unless Juan Cole has iron clad proof - this is despicable.
