Spy chief killed in hotel blasts
The head of the Palestinian intelligence services, Bashir Nafeh, was among those killed in a blast that shook a hotel in the Jordanian capital, a top Palestinian diplomat said.

"Bashir Nafeh was killed in the attack on the Grand Hyatt hotel," charge d'affaires Atallah Khairy said.

At least 57 people were killed and up to 300 wounded in three successive attacks on the Radisson SAS, Grand Hyatt and Days Inn hotels last night, Jordanian officials said.

Iraq's al-Qaeda said today it had carried out the triple bomb attacks on Amman hotels, according to an Internet statement.

3. Why not?
The only thing I find inconsistent is that AQ is usually much quicker at claiming responsibility (usually within hours). However, the attack in Jordan against a US ship took almost 24 hours before AQ claimed responsibility.

4. Has al Qaeda's claim of responsibility been substantiated?
If a head Palestinian intelligence guy was taken out, that would seem to be at cross purposes with al Qaeda's objectives.

5. Could it EVER be substantiated to anyone's satisfaction?
While the "taking out of of a head Palestinian intelligence guy" would seem to be a bad thing, it is quite possible they didn't know he was there. Then again, what if he was one of the targets? Maybe he didn't play with the right people? Also, to be quite honest, IMO, the suicide bombers don't care if the "wrong" people are killed, as long as more of the "right" people are killed, a twisted version of 'collateral damage.'

25. It's more troubling to me
that nothing is substantiated these days. Something happens - talking heads and 'so called' military experts appear on MSM and accusations are thrown all over the place. Letters then suddeny show up on the internet followed by vested interests leading the investigations.

Well since MS NCB broke news about no Israeli's being injured since they were removed from hotels on buses, my cynical mind tells me not to believe the spin because it's way too convenient for all the wrong people.

You say it is "troubling to you" that nothing is substantiated these days, but a report from MSNBC about no dead Israelis is accepted as fact. Why does your cynical mind not tell you that maybe, just maybe, the blame is being laid at the feet of another?

Doesn't it strike you as a little odd that they would not know a ranking Palestinian security official would be there?

Al Qaeda, unlike Monkey Boy, is pretty careful about picking their targets. I don't mean they're not co-equal bloody killers, they just seem to be more discriminating about where they put the cross hairs.

49. The franchises for at least TWO of those hotels were owned by Palestinian
businessmen. One of the bastards went into a wedding, a Muslim wedding, and blew up the guests.

This was a throwdown against King Abdullah, who runs the "Keystone State" as it were, of the region.

The fuckers may have been too clever by half--the Hashemite Kingdom is a thing unto itself. It is tribal loyalty, to the tenth power. Screw that pan-Arab crap, especially when your standard of living is among the best in the region. Beyond the fact that the act was horrific, AQ made a huge judgment error.

41. The group has a history of support within Jordan.
Even if it hadn't been for the massive hype job the US has done re: "Al Qaeda in Iraq" it would be a good suspect for this attack. That is because the Iraqi "franchise" of the Al Qaeda "brand" was largely based out of Jordan when it was in its growth phase. Note that the "franchise" need not have deep links (aside from common causes) with the Al Qaeda "brand".

43. I concur, but let's hold on to that word SUSPECT ...
FOX news is traipsing out all the Al Quaeda boogie men. Hell, I bet right wing fundy children think these thugs are guilty of every damn thing to include "tooth decay."

Like the Vietnamese guerrillas were labeled "gooks" to make them seem less than human, this horror is far too true of humans who are deluded and misled TO THE MAX. The Bush Administration is claiming that nearly every DAMN terrorist attack is the brain child of Al Zarkowi so that we can have a "boogie man figure." With the decentralization of Al Quaeda, this notion is absurd, but highly effective with frightened American sheeple. :puke:

Yes, I'll give you "they're highly suspect - top the list even" if you grant me "the jury's still out" ruling? :hi:

of 'Radical Islamic Militant group'; Was it Zarkawi? I have NO IDEA, but I notice they seem to blame him for whatever goes wrong. He might be a piece of fiction, for all I know.

Do you not agree it spread terror and killed innocents?

Of course, if you had the faintest clue about me, you would realize why the rest of your post is laughable, because I am as liberal as they come and as skeptical as anyone else on this board. I recognize the existence of terrorism and extremism and try to understand what causes them; it is quite unfair to equate that with the reaction of your typical Faux viewer. May I add that I believe torture is PROFOUNDLY IMMORAL and it is insulting to be told that I support it in any way?

Have you ever thought that when Israelis are threatened they actually take it seriously, rather than get blown to Hell? Here's some advice for you, on event you travel to the Middle East. You ever see large groups of Israelis leaving...get the FUCK out! See, we have something similar in the US culture...if you ever see more than two African-Americans running somewhere...FOLLOW THEM, because they are GETTING THE FUCK AWAY from the problem! Think I am kidding? Watch the "Kings of Comedy," and it will show that "Black folk don't stick around to see what happened." (Usually for a very good reason...they will get blamed!)

53. Everything claimed by Al-qaeda is NOT Al-qaeda.
If there is any truth to the rumor that all Israelis were evacuated prior to the attack, the fact that the Palestinian spy chief was among the dead gives new meaning to this event and raises questions about who was really responsible.

Somthing seems really fishy about the entire thing, including Al-qaeda claims that they were responsible. Two of the suicide bombers were Iraqis? Iraqi insurgents are not usually suicide bombers. These Iraqis could have been forced to do this act to protect their families. All kinds of things are posssible and I hope that the Jordania intel is a good as they say it is so they can get to the bottom of this.

Condolences to all those who were killed or injured.

59. No truth to report of Israeli evacuations before Amman bombs
There is no truth to reports that Israelis staying at the Radisson SAS hotel in Amman on Wednesday were evacuated by Jordanian security forces before the bombing that took place there.

The Israelis were escorted back to Israel by Jordanian security personnel only after the attacks had taken place, contrary to earlier reports.

Al Qaida said Thursday that it had carried out the triple suicide bombings at the Radisson, Grand Hyatt and Days Inn hotels in downtown Amman, in which at least 57 people, including an Israeli, were killed.

hotel murders I hope you are off this line of conspiracy thinking about Israel, Cheney, etc and etal. I mean no one likes Cheney around here, but let's not blame him for something we know he's against. And Israel has been fighting this kind of thing for years.

12. Iraq's al-Queda? the one that didn't exist before we got there, right?
i think this is actually America's al-Queda. the one we created when we invaded Iraq. the one we'll be fighting for the rest of our country's existence, apparently.

47. Yes, this reminds me of R.C.I.A.
When I was converting to the Catholic Faith, I used to love to "mix it up" with the right wing Catholics: "OK, I'll go the Abortion Clinic to protest with you, if you will go with me to the Penitentiary and light a candle for the Condemned?"

When the Franciscan Priest was present, we'd enjoy a complete Airing of All views. However, when any other Order of Priest was present, conversation on "What it means to be Pro-Life?" was promptly SHUT-DOWN.

Please remember, a full airing of grievances is the best disinfectant.

Shouldn't we all practice what we preach?

Love thy neighbor as thy self?

51. One seems to be www.tajdeed.net, but I don't know if the latest statement
was published in that forum. It's all in Arabic, of course.

52. Jordanians Rally to Denounce Al-Zarqawi - LINK

AMMAN, Jordan - Hundreds of angry Jordanians rallied Thursday outside one of three U.S.-based hotels attacked by suicide bombers, shouting, "Burn in hell, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi!" after the terrorist's group claimed responsibility for the blasts that killed at least 56 people.

In an Internet statement, al-Qaida in Iraq linked the blasts at the Grand Hyatt, the Radisson SAS and the Days Inn hotels to the war in Iraq and called Amman the "backyard garden" for U.S. operations.

Police continued a broad security lockdown and authorities sent DNA samples for testing to identify the attackers. Land borders were reopened after being closed for nearly 12 hours.

The Amman protest was organized by Jordan's 14 professional and trade unions — made up of both hard-line Islamic groups and leftist political organizations — traditionally a vocal critic of King Abdullah II's moderate and pro-Western policies.

54. I'm sure that I will get blasted for this...however I must say it!
IMO - Bush starting the war in Iraq has helped to increase terrorism 10 fold.

There I said it. And I don't care. It's what I believe and no one can change my mind.

Oh! And by the way I want to send out a "GREAT BIG FUCK YOU" to all the oil companies CEO's. Especially, Lee at Exxon. I'm still pissed at what he said yesterday while sitting in front of congress.

72. What if it's a crafty Palestinian?
Being chief of intelligence for Palestine has to rank right up there with the most dangerous jobs in the world. Nobody wants you to know anything and everyone, including your own people, wants you rubbed out.

What better cover to have than having people think you're already dead?

Think I'm kidding? The Bush Administration's biggest boogeyman, al Zarqawi, has died at least once and grown back a leg, according to the same press reporting this story. That seems to have worked well for him.
