Frist worried about leak, not prisons

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist says he is more concerned about the leak of information regarding secret CIA detention centers than activity in the prisons themselves.

Frist told reporters Thursday that while he believed illegal activity should not take place at detention centers, he believes the leak itself poses a greater threat to national security and is "not concerned about what goes on" behind the prison walls.

"My concern is with leaks of information that jeopardize your safety and security - period," Frist said. "That is a legitimate concern."

He noted that the CIA has also called for a federal criminal investigation into the leak of possibly classified information on secret prisons to The Washington Post. A Nov. 2 Post article touched on a number of sensitive national security issues, including the existence of secret CIA detention centers for suspected terrorists in Eastern European democracies. The Bush administration has neither confirmed nor denied that report.

1. of course
the crime doesn't bother these folks, the time does. They don't regret breaking the law, they regret being caught.

it's on pages 14 and 22 of the handbook I think. ;)

11. He should be an inmate, if he's so unconcerned.
Secret prisons don't exist for honorable purposes, or anything that remotely resenbles justice. Frist just took a shit on due process, cruel and unusual punishment, and lots of other parts of the Constitution he swore to uphold and defend. This attitude leads to torture, and it leads to more terrorism in the future from the friends and family of those we have harmed. It's too bad the architects of the torture are those least likely to suffer the results of what they have sown.

14. Frist concerned more about leaks than secret prisons
http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/11/10/frist.secretprisons.ap/index.html

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist says he is more concerned about the leak of information regarding secret CIA detention centers than activity in the prisons themselves.

Frist told reporters Thursday that while he believed illegal activity should not take place at detention centers, he believes the leak itself poses a greater threat to national security and is "not concerned about what goes on" behind the prison walls.

"My concern is with leaks of information that jeopardize your safety and security -- period," Frist said. "That is a legitimate concern."

In other words, the crimes, no matter how horrific, are less troubling than the discussion of those crimes. Nice.

sorry if dupe.

getting on board, no, calling for a Congressional investigation into the Valerie Plame leak?? Considering his position on leaks, it's safe to assume he has already done that, and I missed it!!

I think Fitzgerald more or less hinted that Congress does have role in this matter of national security.

He must also be super concerned about forged documents which led to the US getting into an unnecessary war?

And I am awaiting his announcement of an investigation into the failure of the Federal government to deal with what is listed as one of the three most dangerous threats to our National Security, a hurricane headed for the Gulf??

He's going to be a busy man!! And I think he needs to be inundated with emails from grateful citizens, offering support for his newfound concerns for National Security. That is, unless he is indicted for insider trading ~

investigation to drudge.

Totaly scewed this one up. The question I have is, didn't Hastert and Frist confirm this classified info. for the Post with their theatrics about the leak? By being so public about the info, they made true in my mind.

25. its an AP story--so will probably get wide coverage.

...Frist and House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Illinois, wrote the leaders of the House and Senate intelligence committees earlier this week calling for a joint congressional investigation into the leak.

"What is the actual and potential damage done to the national security of the United States and our partners in the global war on terror?" the letter said, referring to the leak.

The Post's story said the CIA has been hiding and interrogating some of its most important al Qaeda captives at a Soviet-era compound in Eastern Europe, part of a covert prison system set up by the agency four years ago that at various times has included sites in eight countries. Those countries, the Post said, include several democracies.

27. Not surprising in the least...
coming from a creep who adopted poor little cats and slaughtered them. And obviously thought there was nothing wrong with it enough to write about it in his own biography.

What's the big deal about a spot of torture in a far away secret prison?

:sarcasm:
