New York bids to keep Sept. 11 aid some in Washington want back

WASHINGTON -- New York City fire officials came to Congress Thursday to urge lawmakers not to take back $125 million in Sept. 11 aid money, saying the money is still desperately needed to help treat thousands of sick ground zero workers.

New York Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta, and police and fire officials visited the offices of key House lawmakers hoping to convince them not to rescind the aid meant to cover workers compensation claims.

City officials and New York lawmakers argue the money should remain in New York and be spent on the long-term health problems suffered by people who worked at ground zero.

....

After the 2001 terror attacks, President Bush pledged $20 billion in aid to help rebuild New York. The administration's 2006 budget recommended taking back the $125 million, because the state had yet to spend it.

3. Lung ailments, huh?
Those wouldn't be related to the toxins that Bush's administration forced the EPA to lie about, would they? 'Cause it'd be awfully ironic if the firefighters -- the ones Bush is always invoking in his attempt to ride the wave of 9/11 patriotism -- first became ill because of BushCo's malevolent decision, and now won't be able to be treated because the administration wants the money back.

Shows you just how much Bush really cares about the 9/11 survivors and the city that suffered the most as a result of the attacks. He's a mean-spirited, greedy, ignorant, spiteful little Napoleon-wannabe. Or, as Mike Malloy so aptly calls him, a "giggling murderer."

God how I hate him.

P.S. And why the hell didn't Newsday's article include this little tidbit, reminding people about WHY the firefighters and other workers at Ground Zero are having lung problems? Don't any reporters these days know how to link topics to show a broader picture?? ARRRGH it makes me so mad!!! #@&$#^$ :argh:
