Arrests made in Jordan after hotel bombings

(Amman, Jordan-AP) November 10, 2005 - Authorities in Jordan are busy. They say they've arrested a number of Iraqis following Wednesday's bombings at three hotels in Amman.

Security forces are trying to capture anyone who may be connected to the bombings before they can flee the country. The attacks left 56 people dead, including at least one American.

Al-Qaida in Iraq has claimed responsibility. The group's leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is being angrily denounced in street demonstrations in Amman. Jordan's deputy prime minister tells CNN a strong message needs to be sent that terrorist attacks on civilians should not be justified for any reason.

1. Is just being an Iraqi enough to get you arrested? I thought these things
had to be investigated for months before you could come to any conclusions. Testing of the bomb ingredients, etc. as an example.

2. Accompanied with tough talk:
"Jordan's deputy prime minister tells CNN a strong message needs to be sent that terrorist attacks on civilians should not be justified for any reason."

3. I do agree with the statement the deputy Prime Minister made....
about terrorist attacks on civilians but I think they should do some investigating and not just rely on a phone call claiming responsibility.
Anyone can make a phone call claiming responsibility but it doesn't mean it's true.

4. Well, George's little myth about Iraq and terrorism is materializing.
Right before our eyes. I wonder where they will go next after Jordan. George is really becoming more and more dangerous to world stability.

And he sent Karen Hughs out as an ambassador to spin our government's duplicity into an image of rectitude. How disastrous was that?

:nuke:

8. correct me if im wrong
but arent most terrorists in/from Iraq suicide bombers? Blowing yourself up being the ultimate martyrdom. Making arrests is almost laughable. At least from my point of view

9. Arrested Iraqis?
Aren't you glad we "saved" that country? Now global terrorists have a free country to train their killers in.

11. Oh goody! Jordan was my next job assignment!
I can't wait. :sarcasm:

I'm in Egypt right now, which has recently gone thru rioting between Muslims and Xians in Alexandria (where I am currently based). And is currently going thru a month-long Parliamentary election which often resembles rioting.

FWIW, the Egyptian press is mostly state-owned and very aware of all the American bribes...er, foreign aid...flowing in. They STILL bash $hrub a lot harder than the "free" American press.

Just today I was reading about an American NGO in Egypt that is working with local reporters to "improve journalistic standards."

Our nation has produced Fox News, Wolf Shitzer, Bob Novak, Joe "Dead Intern" Scarborough and Ann Coulter. And we're lecturing other countries about journalistic standards?
