Rove Discussed Programming With Public TV Chief, Konz Says
Rove Discussed Programming With Public TV Chief, Konz Says

Nov. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Presidential adviser Karl Rove and Kenneth Tomlinson, then chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, discussed creating a ``conservative'' talk show and adding it to the public television lineup, the organization's top investigator said.

Kenneth Konz, inspector general of the nonprofit company that oversees government funding of public TV, said in an interview yesterday that Tomlinson and Rove exchanged e-mails on programming and that Tomlinson also wrote to Rove about ``shaking up'' the agency and recruiting Republican staff.

In a report two days ago, Konz said Tomlinson broke federal laws and internal rules by hiring corporation President Patricia Harrison, a former Republican National Committee co-chairwoman, based on her Republican ties. The report discussed the e-mails but didn't identify Rove as one of the people involved.
(snip)

Tomlinson also improperly helped develop ``The Journal Editorial Report,'' a conservative talk show, for public TV, the six-month probe found.

1. The e-mail trail may still exist if CPB computers were used
How nice would that be? Businesses back up their systems regularly, so even if individuals delete their files, some if not all may still be stored away....

2. E-mails leaves a footprint, a phone call does also
but does not say what the conversation was about. These two political hacks were definitely talking about changes at PBS.

This story should add to Mr. Bush Jr.'s poll ratings!

and found this unpleasantly large photo of her.

Help.

7. He leaves his
fat little fingerprints in everything devious and dirty, doesn't he? Karl Rove is like his boss, Dubya, a sociopath. This is another brick in the wall.

9. I knew these thugs were interested in
controlling the message, but it looks like the overworked Mr. Rove should have "Minister of Propaganda" added to his business card - right under "Hatchet Man" and "Slimy Purveyor of Dirty Tricks and Treason."

12. ACK....
I actually wrote in to complain about the factual errors on Journal Editorial Report. It was one of the worst PBS shows and I hate it. Pure bilge. I know Charlie Rose tends to be conservative but I like his show so I don't mind listening to conservative POV if it is backed up with facts-most however, are not.

14. PBS = Rove TV
Rove and this administration have turned the US government into a machine of right-wing propaganda, and PBS into their own personal megaphone. This is not new, though. It was quite obvious that Tomlinson was nothing but a henchman for Karl Rove.

Image is everything for these f#ckers. Goebbels would be proud of the Rovemeister.

15. God forbid there should be a dissenting voice left
Having the GOP Wurlitzer isn't enough for these fascists. I cut way back on my PBS viewing after they started showing commercials and put on the bow-tied wonder. The WHOLE POINT of public television was to have a voice for the people, not beholden to corporations.

So, they own the House, the White House, the Senate, the Courts and the media, but they gotta own PBS, too. Can't have the truth leaking out anywhere, no matter how few Mercans actually see it.

16. So the Wall Street editorial board were unethically given a TV show
Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 11:11 AM by Julius Civitatus
by Tomlinson to fulfill Rove's request.

It was known that the uber-conservative board of the WSJ were trying to get their revolting talk-show in the free market, but all attempts FAILED because their show SUCKS and nobody (except pseudo-intellectual, east-coast elite right-wingers of the George Will persuasion) would be interested in watching this tripe. They first tried to broadcast this shitty talk-show in a commercial network, but failed miserably and was canceled quickly.

It's clear now that these Ayn Rand radicals that defend the free market at all costs didn't seem to have a problem when Rove/Tomlimson offered them to force their shitty show on the public using the public funds in a public-owned network like PBS. So, you see, "socialism" is fine with the board of the Wall Street Journal when it comes to THEIR OWN interests. Corporate welfare queens!!! The lot of them!!!

Furthermore, a very rich and private enterprise like the WSJ was taking in subsidies, that is your tax money, to put a TV show that ultimately works for the benefit of this private enterprise. You see, apparently there wasn't a single non-profit or public interest group that could have benefited from access to the public through PBS. Nope. We had to make sure the WSJ had priority to dump heir ideas on the public with our own money. These people are scum, really.

Hypocrites.

20. Tomlinson is gone?
Digging to the bottom of that Bloomberg article...

"In a report two days ago, Konz said Tomlinson broke federal laws and internal rules..."

"Tomlinson, 61, resigned from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting earlier this month after a draft of the report was given to the agency's board."

Hooray hooray hooray!

Am I the only DUer who missed this welcome news?)

Who's his replacement? Someone a bit less evil, I hope.
