Nasdaq to delist Taser International
Nasdaq to delist Taser International

Associated Press
Inland Valley Daily Bulletin

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Stun-gun maker Taser International Inc. said Friday that the Nasdaq Stock Market told the company its stock could be delisted because it failed to file its third-quarter financial report on time.

The company's shares shed 90 cents, or 12 percent, to close at $6.50 Friday on the Nasdaq.

Taser said it will appeal the Nasdaq's decision by requesting a hearing before the exchange's listing qualifications panel. Until the panel makes a decision, Taser's stock will continue to be traded on the Nasdaq, though its stock symbol will be changed to "TASRE" from "TASR" until it files its quarterly report.

The company, whose earnings and revenue have dropped sharply in recent quarters amid concern about the safety of its stun guns, said on Nov. 15 it would not file its third-quarter 10-Q report on time since it had to restate its first and second-quarter results.

State Probes Death
Interviews Start Today In Death Of Autistic Man, 30, Following Struggle With Police
By TODD WESSELL

Journal Editor

The Illinois State Police's Public Integrity Unit today (Wednesday) will begin interviewing Des Plaines police officers, paramedics and others involved in the death of an autistic man Sunday who had been shot by taser guns and pepper spray.

Hansel Cunningham, 30, of 843 S. Golf Cul-de Sac, which is near the Cumberland Circle, was pronounced dead Sunday at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Hts. following a violent encounter at his residence. The Golf Cul de Sac house is where several people live who are cared for by an Evanston-based service for autistic individuals.

According to police, caregiver Ahmed Sayed called 911 at about 3:40 p.m. to report that he had been severely bitten on his hands and arms as he attempted to restrain Cunningham. When police arrived and tried to take Cunningham into custody, he became enraged and combative and resisted attempts to handcuff him. Police said Cunningham ran to the back yard of the home and removed his clothing. At that point, officers attempted to subdue him using tasers and pepper spray, which had little effect. A short while later, Cunningham was tackled by one or more police officers and handcuff. At that time, said reports, Cunningham began to experience difficulty breathing. Des Plaines paramedics, on the scene to treat the bite victim, began life saving measures on Cunningham who was then rushed to Northwest Community.

"There was blood inside and outside the house," said Police Chief Jim Prandini yesterday (Tuesday). "This was a very violent scene. When the caregiver called 911 we definitely knew there was a problem there."

3. The guy bit an officer so badly that he needed surgery...

How SHOULD the police have subdued him?

Yes, there are issues with tasers that have to be resolved, but many people are effectively subdued without injury. This is a case where I don't see an issue with using a taser...it was better than pummeling Cunningham into unconsciousness (which would have been the method used before tasers).

The bottom line is that Cunningham needed to be taken away and he assaulted officers to the point where one needed surgery. It's unfortunate that he died, but the officers actively tried to subdue him using non-lethal means.

2. Failure to file a report? And I thought it was about ethics...
So much for Nasdaq finding a conscience.
