Musician Who Tangled With Bush to Run
Musician Who Tangled With Bush to Run
Tuesday, November 29, 2005
(11-29) 14:48 PST WASHINGTON, (AP) --

A year after tangling with the Bush campaign over the use of a pop tune he penned in the 1970's, Democrat John Hall now wants to take on Rep. Sue Kelly.

Hall, a former county legislator who lives in Dover Plains, announced Tuesday he is running for Congress.

A co-founder of the band Orleans, Hall criticized the Bush re-election effort last year for using "Still the One," a song he co-wrote, at campaign rallies.

The campaign insisted it had legal right to use the song, but stopped playing it after Hall complained.

and selling copies on the street. Welcome to Bush World.

Cheney's office, Rumsfeld aides and others argued "that the president of the United States is all-powerful, that as commander in chief the president of the United States can do anything he damn well pleases," Wilkerson said.

Maybe King George is the most appropriate name for him.

You a Lexington resident? If you are, or live nearby, come to the CFK meeting Dec 7 7PM at the main library downtown. We are gearing up for 2006 and need an Angry Girl or two.

from this part of the world.

In Arizona you probably have your own battles to fight.

CFK is the Kentucky chapter of the DFA.

BTW, if you have environmental battles to fight, look for help from Green Corps.

They really helped us in our fight for local control of our water.

I've bookmarked it and will read more later but it loks really interesting! I am revamping my website in the next few ______s and plan on having a sizeable green section, so this will make a great addition.

And, btw, we will be building our first solar water still this coming January! (been looking for an excuse to do so for a while and the Chinese/Russian chemical plant disaster kinda clinched the deal!)

friends. One of them was into street activism, so we got along real well. It was fun having someone helping when diving into a crowd to leaflet.

You need to read two books.

"Water Wars" by Vandana Shiva
"Blue Gold" by Maude Barlow. ( and some other writer I can't recall right now)

It will give you even more reason to become water independent.

Is that your site featured in your sig line?

I haven't read them but I'm suspecting it's not good news. I like these two sites on the water problem:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/features/water/business.html
which leads to
http://www.icij.org/water/

And, yeah, that's our site. My particular little page is
http://nightweed.com/angrygirl.html
and I just put a link to you guys top right-hand corner! At least that's it's spot for now! Chances are it'll get moved down the column, which is just a lousy system, hence the urgent need to reorganize....!

40. Good article. They failed to mention Bechtel, the fourth
multinational in the water business. They are such butt-holes, they got kicked out of Bolivia because of their bad manners and business practices.

RWE is now getting out of the water business, so their water works (Thames) is up for sale.

The Center for Public Integrity is bookmarked.

Just bookmarked your site. Excellent.

Thanks. I will write my Green Corp Friends to let them know about the link.

My site is the link to the left in my signature line. It is posters for wheat pasting. I kept them black and white mostly. I did that because I like it that way. Black ink is cheap, and I am cheap. Black and white is simple, and I ..... you get the picture.

I am living in two worlds. One world is main line electoral politics, the other walks the line between grassroots politics and anarchy.

I am thinking about hitting the streets tonight to do a bit of pasting. (either that or stay home, sip bourbon and listen to music)

The paste dries real fast in cold, dry weather.

28. The Addict himself explained:
Way back when that embarrassing incident had occurred (Hynde objecting to his using that song), The Addict at first avoided the topic on his daily polemic. But then the song was no longer being played at every break, as it previously had been. Listeners apparently noticed. So The Addict saw fit to comment on his little intellectual property problem. He explained that the song could be used--but it could not legally be adopted by him as his theme song, as he had clearly been doing.

From that time on, the song was heard less and less on his show. The Addict was essentially able to turn tail and run, while still appearing to have "won" the legal wrangling--when, in fact, he had lost. (Sort of like The Drunk is currently doing regarding Iraq.)

If you can stand to be highly annoyed for a while, check out The Addict's show. You won't find that song being played continually, as it was in the past.

29. Addict Rush did not achieve a victory in that fight.
I was formerly one of his listeners. (Not much to say in my defense, except that I did often question his bullshit spew, and I definitely knew that he was NOT representative of his listeners, being as he is only interested in greedily filling his coffers.)

The Addict himself explained to his listeners:

Way back when that embarrassing incident had occurred (Hynde objecting to his using that song), The Addict at first avoided the topic on his daily polemic. 22. Back in 2000's campaign
Poppy was at an event, I believe it was in Washington. The theme song they chose was
"Oh No Let's Go Crazy" by Prince.

Dearly beloved,
We are gathered here today
To get through this thing called LIFE
Electric word life
It means forever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here to tell ya
There's something else...the afterworld
A world of never ending happiness
You can always see the sun
Day or night
So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills -
You know the one
Dr. Everything 'll be alright
'Stead of asking Him how much of you're time is left
Ask him how much of you're mind, baby
'Cause in this life things are much harder than in the afterworld
In this life...you're on your own!
And if the elevator tries to bring you down,
go crazy...punch a higher floor!

If you don't like the world you're living in
Take a look around ya
At least ya got friends
I called my old lady
For a friendly word
She just picked up the phone
Dropped it on the floor
"Ssss ahh, sss ahh!" is all I heard
I'm not gonna let the elevator bring us down
Oh no, let's go...let's go crazy
Let's get nuts
Let's look for the purple banana 'til they put us in the truck...Let's go!

All excited, don't know why
Maybe it's cause we're all gonna die
And when we do, what's it all for?
Better live now before the Grim Reaper comes knocking on your door
Tell me baby...
Are we gonna let the elevator bring us down?
Oh no, let's go...let's go crazy, babe!
Let's get nuts
Let's look for the purple banana 'til they put us in the truck
Let's go!
C'mon baby, let's get nuts...yeah!

Let's go crazy

Are we gonna let the elevator bring us down?
Oh no! Let's go...crazy!
I said let's go crazy!
Let's go! Let's go!

Dr. Everything 'll be alright
Make everything go wrong
Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill
Hang tough children
He's coming...He's coming...He's coming!

During this same period of time Baby Bush was campaigning using "We Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who.

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
Though I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do ya?

There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Are now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

They were warning us way back then, I guess no one was listening(?)

"There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."

...was President Brain-dead mixing up the saying with that song!

11. Reagan used "Born in the USA"
Apparently he, and everyone on his campaign staff, neglected to see the anti-war (anti-everything-repuke) message in the songs' lyrics. All they heard was "Borrrrrnnnn in the UUUUSSSSAAAAAA" and started waving their fucking flags. HAHAHA.

14. Reagan's latching on to "Born In The USA"
was funny. Obviously nobody in his campaign bothered to listen to the lyrics, just heard the title and went for it.
Springsteen immediately told them to stop using it, quoting it, or listening to it.
It was the closest he came to making a political statement until Kerry's campaign.
