Schwarzenegger bond plan at $25 bln-$27 bln-report
Thu Dec 29, 2005 3:07 PM ET

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger plans to ask for an infrastructure bond issue of $25 billion to $27 billion, the Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday, quoting administration sources.

The celebrity Republican has already signaled he is seeking massive spending on infrastructure in the nation's most populous state. But he has not given a final amount after his administration hinted at a number as high as $50 billion.

Schwarzenegger will unveil his plans on January 5 in his State of the State address, which will be followed on January 10 with the presentation of his new fiscal year budget.

Details of the governor's proposals are typically leaked in the days leading up to those presentations. The Los Angeles Times did not provide more details about the infrastructure bond sum, although it said it was expected Schwarzenegger would face an uphill battle winning two-thirds of legislators to back the plan.

3. Didn't Arnold criticize G. Davis for wanting to sell bonds for CA debt
during the campaign and that he had a better idea?

6. He certainly did
After all, Gray Davis was plunging California into $8 billion worth of debt. Fortunately, Arnold's in there now, and shows what a piker Davis was when it comes to debt: He's going to run up anywhere from three to six times that much.

The Orange County Register and the San Diego Union Tribune will spend much of the next six months telling everyone how responsible such a massive debt is, and how thankful the voters of the great state of California should be to have such a strong leader.

11. Who does he think he is, Regan?

It is very Republican of him to borrow money with no plans to pay it back. Like his party, he's leaving the mess for the Dems to clean up, AGAIN...

His party will continute to run on how "fiscally responsible" they are. And how Dems just spend money on all those social programs - like drugs to keep old people alive, and food for starving children.

Okay, maybe he thinks he's Bush. He's not spending enough quickly enough though and he's forgotten to rule the people by fear.
