Same-Sex Marriage Amendment Debate Begins in Maryland House
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 05:34 PM by LiberalGuy000
Maybe most Americans would just like gays to leave the country entirely. I'm so tired of this debate. Knowing that it's going continue for many years makes it even worse.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP)- An emotionally charged debate over whether same-sex marriages should be outlawed in the Maryland Constitution went before state lawmakers Tuesday, with conservatives pushing for a ballot question on gay marriage even as an appeals court weighs the matter.

Before a packed room and dozens more waiting outside, the House Judiciary Committee began hearing testimony on a GOP proposal to amend the state constitution to ban gay marriages and civil unions.

Gay marriage "is not within the concept of the laws of nature," said Delegate Don Dwyer, R-Anne Arundel County, who sponsored the amendment. Dwyer said lawmakers would be derelict if they left the question to courts.

Dwyer also said gay people can choose whether to be gay and therefore can't compare themselves to racial minorities.

1. Christians can choose whether to be Christians
Therefore, it is perfectly acceptable to remove religious anti-discrimination laws, right?

3. LOUD LONG HARD HAND-HURTING APPLAUSE
A dear beloved, long ago when it made any sense to have such on the side projects made a T-shirt that said "It is DEFINITELY a choice to be a bigot."

(raises hypothetical glass to TechBear) Thank you, exactly, and Hell yeah. I sure never signed up to be queer. Who would? And I tried to fake normal, straight, corporate, etc.......somehow they can SMELL that you just ain't. Perhaps it's the lack of several hundred dollars worth of wardrobe for temp office jobs that sets me and a millionplus like me apart in the easily fired category?

7. Yes, let's stop issuing driver's licenses to Jews...
because they drive on Sundays.

They can choose to not be Jewish anymore if they want to.

Of course, I'm being sarcastic.

But I would love for someone at the Registry of Motor Vehicles to engage in civil disobedience by voicing a religious objection to granting licenses to Jews, Atheists, 7th Day Adventists and Muslims, just to make the point.

A marriage license is a license, it is not a sacrament.

The sacrament is what happens within a church, synagogue, mosque, temple or UFO cult.

2. Boy, I'd like to.
In fact, if any right-wing fucks want to pay the exorbitant costs for me and my beloved to leave what seems to be THEIR country suddenly they can drop me a mail. We'd be happy to leave. I'm sick and tired of fighting; watching my constant-since-middle-school dreams of swinging and swinging with no effect coming true is making me too tired to give a fuck about abstract ideas like "America" and "pursuit of happiness" and such. We'd settle for fair pay for fair work and nobody into our business about what we do that harms none after we get OFF work.

yeah, I said before and I still mean that I wouldn't give up, but continuing to stay here doing THIS for some random cutesy ideal while we semi-starve and have no future seems an awfully lot like shooting ourselves in the foot. What's the number one most democratic country on that I forget which poll again? Finland? Hi, Finland. I'll work eight hours a day with fair requests for needed overtime and I don't waste a minute. You can ask any boss I ever had. They're all probably unemployed too so they have plenty of time to answer your email, translation and all. I even occasionally have ideas that will save money and time--though they never seemed to save any of my money or my time. Drop me a line, Finland, or all those love-it-leave-it fucks. I'd be happy to do either but I can't tolerate much more of being able to do neither.

5. F**k Kaine...
...and his weird eyebrows.

Sadly, the big-name Democrats who support same-sex marriage rights are few and far between. The vast majority support the hate-driven agenda of the fundies.

Gays are truly the scapegoat of this decade.

6. All MN Catholic Dioceses through their weight behind our proposed one
I think the IRS should go after each and every one. The second weekend of Feb they have a postcard drive at all churches to send to all State Senators to urge them to push it thourgh. The Senate is DFL controlled and it died there last year. I am beyond disgusted with this.

Florida Gay Marriage Foes Come Up Short
by Fidel Ortega, 365Gay.com Miami Bureau

Posted: February 1, 2006 - 7:00 pm ET

(Tallahassee, Florida) A group collecting signatures for a proposed amendment to Florida's constitution to ban same-sex marriage has failed according to the Associated Press.

State records at 5 p.m., the deadline for turning in the signatures, showed that the group had turned in about 446,000 signatures, well short of the 611,009 needed, but the totals were unofficial.

Florida4Marriage conceded that it was likely to fall short the AP reports.

Officials at the state Division of Elections likely wouldn't be able to say with certainty Wednesday night whether the group had turned in enough signatures, because they had to be verified, a division spokeswoman said.

9. The Right-Wings Bases...
...Is FUCKING RELIGIOUS GROUNDS!! In saying that and pointing out the obvious, they can cry and bitch all they want but to ban Gay-Marriage is saying that "This particular groupe of people doesnt have equal rights because of their gender." Bullshit you bigot assholes.
ITS FUCING ILLEGAL to deny Gay people the right to marry. This is the same shit that interacial couples went through, with the same haters, back in the 50s and 60s.

I will agree to a ban on Gay marriage if they ban people from praticing any form Christianity...Same fucking thing.
Equal is fucking Equal. Just because Im Gay and Atheist and Their Staight and Christian DOES NOT PUT THEM ABOVE ME NOR DOES IT MEAN SPECIAL PRIVILAGES FOR THE STRAIGHT BIGOTS.
