House Republicans Rally for Epic Battle
House Republicans Rally for Epic Battle

By CARL HULSE
Published: February 12, 2006
CAMBRIDGE, Md., Feb. 11 — House Republicans descended in force upon this Eastern Shore community for three days to ponder their political and policy future and ended up talking about "the Force."

Hunkered down at a retreat intended to help them regain their footing after a corruption scandal and a leadership shake-up, about 180 lawmakers were treated to a film spoof that portrayed Republicans as the "Star Wars" heroes being pursued by the evil Democratic empire led by "Darth Nancy." That would be Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, the House Democratic leader.

"After a decade of exile, the evil Democratic empire has created their most fearsome henchman to date, a mighty machine built to regain the majority once and for all," said the text that scrolled at the opening of the parody, which superimposed Ms. Pelosi's face on the movie villain.

The short video, produced by the National Republican Congressional Committee, had the audience in stitches, according to those on hand. But it was also a tacit admission that House Republicans are in for an epic battle this November as they try to retain their majority in a midterm election cycle that has historically meant Congressional losses for the party in power.

23. March of the Penguins
----snip----

And though the administration's response to Hurricane Katrina was high drama on Capitol Hill, Mr. Bush apparently was not asked about the storm or its aftermath, audience members said.

He left before lawmakers and their families wrapped up Friday with a screening of "March of the Penguins," the documentary that no doubt reminded some of the difficult slog to November.

6. Republican fear and loathing of strong women....
Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Coretta Scott King, Sybil Edmonds, Karen Kwiatkowski, Helen Thomas, Christiane Amanpour, Barbara Boxer, Maxine Waters,
Colleen Rowley, Randi Rhodes, Bunnatine Greenhouse, Teresa Kerry, Barbara Lee, Barbra Steisand, Susan Sarandon, Cindy Sheehan, Arundhati Roy, and so many more smart, courageous women.

These Republicans are yellow, sniveling cowards and America is waking up to it. Fellas, your days in the sun are coming to an end.

Yeah. She's even harsh enough to notice that you're a lying, neocon asshole.

Why does anybody in our party take these people seriously? This is like a middle school student council meeting that goes from bad to worse with the boys having a farting contest and the girls gossiping about stuffed bras.

16. These assholes are treading on sacred ground...
...Maybe I'm just an uber-geek, but these thugs failing to realize that they are the epitome of the "dark side"--is highly sickening.

I'm no Star Wars expert, but the philosophy within the Star Wars movies was very moving. The "Dark Side" was fueled by fear and anger, which is all the Republicans have. Bush's entire 04 campaign was based on fear. The "Dark Side" is all about war, manipulating others and lying. "The Force" is about strength through peace.

Republicans live like the Sith and reject the way a Jedi would live.

Obviously, these assholes know nothing about Star Wars.

I doubt any Jedi Knight would condone the PNAC agenda.

20. I'm on the same page as you here...
THEY are the servants of the Republic who are trying to turn it into the Empire and marginalize those of us who believe in the Republic.

"Darth Nancy?" ROFL.

Someone please tell me what Darth Cheney thinks of that.

The electronic voting machines are in place and no matter WHAT the polls say on election eve, when we all wake up (literally) on the day after the GOP will have prevailed.

I'll bet anyone $10. Anyone who wants to take me up just PM me.

I hate to be a doom and gloomer but if you have followed the issue you now just what I mean.

21. Oh yes, every American I know is rooting for the Republicans
We all want the "good guys" to fabricate another illegal war, continue under-equipping our troops and reducing their benefits, keep torturing prisoners in case they have valuable information, and go on losing billions of our taxpayer dollars to shady contractors. The way they do this with nary a raised eyebrow makes us so proud we can hardly keep from waving old Glory!

Every American I know loves the Republicans for their unprecedented expansion of government and their loveable cronyism. And how they look after us! Why, their never-ending corruption scandals give us something to talk about every day, and the monumental national debt they've created will warm the hearts of our grandchildren one day.

Of course we support the warrantless domestic wiretapping our heros the mighty Republicans began conducting before 9/11 even though it hasn't managed to catch a terrorist yet. They HAVE managed to catch a nurse for her ill-advised wording in an email, which is great, because all Americans agree that anyone who's crass enough to disagree with the President should lose their job, be shut in a "Free Speech" cage or, when they're really out of line, arrested for wearing a t-shirt. Every red-blooded American believes there ought to be limits on freedom of speech, especially if that speech is against our valiant Republicans!

We think our news media is the best EVER since the Republicans turned the screws; we only hear what we need to on a 6-month delay, if ever, and that saves so much time because now there's no point in paying any attention. And we don't mind that Big Oil is reporting record profits, even though it's hard deciding whether to fill the tank or let the mortgage payment slide.

Everyone I know thinks the Republicans were so brave when they slipped the President's Social Security Plan into the recent budget without the evil Dems even noticing. That was a maneuver that will go down in history!

All Americans want the Republicans to enforce their "Christian" values on the entire country, cut aid to our poor children and elderly parents and grandparents, keep looting our wallets, keep stealing our elections, and continue lying through their teeth about it all....That is, when they aren't courageously ducking responsibility by blaming those evil Democrats!

I know I'll have left many things out, but above all we commend the Republicans for their quaint habit of pissing on the Constitution and the Rule of Law, and for turning this country into a pale shadow of what our founders intended. What the hell did those old geezers know anyway?

Yeah, the Republicans are heroic rebels to be admired all right. :eyes:
