AUBURN, Calif. - Republican
John Doolittle announced his bid for a ninth term in Congress, saying he may face his toughest campaign yet because of his
ties to indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
Doolittle said Thursday he has done nothing wrong, but
he accepted at least $14,000 in campaign money from Abramoff, who has pleaded guilty in an influence-peddling scandal.

Doolittle faces Auburn City Councilman Mike Holmes in the Republican primary. Two Democrats, retired Air Force Maj.
Charlie Brown of Auburn and
Lisa Rea of Lincoln, are running for their party's nomination in Doolittle's sprawling 4th Congressional District, which stretches from Sacramento's eastern suburbs to the Oregon and Nevada borders.
Doolittle's wife has done fundraising work for Abramoff. Doolittle has received tens of thousands of dollars from Abramoff's tribal clients and he has written letters to the Interior Department on behalf of two American Indian tribes that were clients of Abramoff's firm.
