Santorum, McCain are new allies
Sens. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) may seem an odd couple, but they are locking arms on lobbying reform as Santorum casts himself in the election-year role of clean-government champion and McCain seeks to establish his bona fides with conservative voters before the 2008 Republican presidential primary.

McCain, the paramour of the Senate press corps, made a cameo appearance praising Santorum in the Pennsylvanian’s news release on the issue Tuesday, hours after the first of two reform-legislation committee markups this week.

(snip)

The newfound policy partnership is notable because the Arizona maverick seldom endorses the legislative priorities of Santorum, the Republican Conference chairman and an icon of the conservative movement.

“We wonder if McCain is as excited about the fact that Santorum has gotten more lobbyist money than anyone up in 2006,” Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesman Phil Singer said.

12. McCain has gone off the deep
end or what? I used to admire the guy and supported him against * in 2000 (hoping against hope that * could be driven out in the primaries). What has happend to him? Did they take part of his brain when they cut out the skin cancer?

14. Couldn't this be seen as a good thing?
I mean, it doesn't look good for Sen. Santorum in PA. He's got a track record to be concealed, not praised. He's got the skeletons of creepy rumors in his closet and supported the president in his worst decisions. Let Sen. McCain step in to help. Allow the Sen. from AZ to tie himself to Sen. Santorum. Absent a groundswell for Sen. McCain, such a coupling would help PA stay blue. I can't see such a groundswell given the pictures of the senator hugging the president and eating cake while Americans died for the lack of federal leadership and assistance, given his enabling of this administration and given his efforts in destroying the America we all knew.

15. So McCain will stand up
to torture in North Vietnamese prison but will bend over and take it in order to be Republican nominee. I suspect this pairing is an order from the likes of Karl Rove.

Sickening. I used to admire McCain, but he has clearly sold the last of his soul in this run for the Presidency.
