NYT: Bush Pledges Vigorous Fight to Retain Republican Control of Congress
Bush Pledges Vigorous Fight to Retain Republican Control of Congress
By ADAM NAGOURNEY
Published: May 18, 2006

WASHINGTON, May 17 — President Bush vowed Wednesday to lead an aggressive campaign this fall to maintain Republican control of Congress, saying there was a "stark difference" between the two parties.

The president, speaking at a Republican National Committee fund-raiser, left little doubt that the White House would return to the same themes it used over the past six years, portraying Democrats as weak on terrorism and committed to higher taxes and government spending. As he did in 2002 and 2004, he repeatedly invoked the memory of the attacks of Sept. 11.

"It's a stark choice," Mr. Bush said. "And I'm going to keep talking about it because we have a record to run on."

"We are the party of the future, and our candidates will be running against the party of the past — a party that offers no new ideas like the Republican Party, a party that can only offer opposition," Mr. Bush said.

But Mr. Bush, in an acknowledgment of the difficult political straits he and his party face, also offered a strong defense of the war in Iraq — the issue that his chief political adviser, Karl Rove, said was responsible for sapping much of the president's popularity. Mr. Bush said he was confident that the increasingly unpopular war would produce a stable democracy in Iraq....

This from Mr. Record Deficit?

"Weak on terrorism"-- from the guy who "doesn't spend that much time" on Bin Laden?! And ignored 9/11 warnings?! And attacked the WRONG FREAKING COUNTRY?!

I say...bring it on, beeatch!!

Just wait. Bush will announce his party's bold new idea to fix everything: tax cuts for the rich.

11. Bush Predicts Election Victory for Republicans

http://www.voanews.com/english/2006-05-18-voa2.cfm

Bush Predicts Election Victory for Republicans

President Bush is predicting victory for Republicans in November congressional elections based on a record of promoting freedom and opportunity at home and abroad. Mr. Bush addressed Republican Party organizers amid opinion surveys showing declining approval ratings for his presidency and the Republican-led Congress.

It was an animated and upbeat President Bush who sought to rally party loyalists at a Republican National Committee gala event in Washington.

President Bush said Republicans are a party of optimism, and that under Republican leadership freedom is expanding across the globe, including in Iraq. "Free countries will lay the foundation of peace for our children and grandchildren. The enemy cannot defeat us in Iraq, and they cannot defeat us anywhere else in the world. The only way we can be defeated is if we lose our nerve, and the Republican Party will not lose its nerve," he said.

Mr. Bush promised to vigorously continue to war on terror, to keep taxes low, and deal with pressing immigration matters.

19. The Republican party lost its soul, long ago...in 2000
It's nerve went with it. It has become the party of lies, special interests, and oppression of the working class.

How W can reconcile optimism with the reality of www.icasualties.org is mind boggling. The little shit goes around starting wars, commanding others to fight them, and then says he's optimistic.

We all know he has directed the taxes of the working class for redistribution to the wealthy. We will give him credit for producing a numbed down brain dead of kool aid drinkers who will still spit on their country and vote GOP.

wow.. bush.. you must be psychic....

23. If one doesn't work, they do the other.
IF that doesn't work. They'll do something else. They really are running on empty. "They're gonna win! Vote or they'll win and eat your baby!" Or it's "Don't worry we'll win. Stay home and be happy and do the usual thing. We're cool..." What will it be when they find out this doesn't help their poll numbers? :eyes:

34. Yet his election forecasts have been eerily prescient...
For some reason, while I treat everything else he says as celebrating a sort of extended national "opposite day", I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt on this topic.

(IOW: watch out. He's only saying this because he's been told how it's gonna be by the people who own the election process.)

Bush Pledges Vigorous Fight to Retain Republican Crony Capitalist Control of Congress
By ADAM NAGOURNEY
Published: May 18, 2006

WASHINGTON, May 17 — President Bush vowed Wednesday to lead an aggressive campaign this fall to maintain Republican Flat Earth Society control of Congress, saying there was a "stark difference" between the two parties.

The president, speaking at a Republican National Committee fund-raiser, left little doubt that the White House would return to the same themes it used over the past six years, portraying Democrats as weak on terrorism civil rights infringment and committed to higher taxes tax cuts for working families and government spending for important economic development programs. As he did in 2002 and 2004, he repeatedly invoked the memory of the attacks of Sept. 11.

"It's a stark choice," Mr. Bush said. "And I'm going to keep talking about it because we have a record to run on: deficits, infringments on basic rights, and poor planing."

"We are the party of the future we have been endorsed by the counsil for buggy whip manufacture, and our candidates will be running against the party of the pastfuture — a party that offers no new ideas to infringe on basic rightslike the Republican Party, a party that can only offer opposition to maldistribution of wealth," Mr. Bush said.

But Mr. Bush, in an acknowledgment of the difficult political straits he and his party face, also offered a strong defense of the war in Iraq — the issue that his chief political adviser, Karl Rove, said was responsible for sapping much of the president's popularity. Mr. Bush said he was confident that the increasingly unpopular war would produce a stable democracy corrupt bannana republic in Iraq....
