Conservatives urge Bush to push marriage amendment
The Washington Times

WASHINGTON -- Social conservatives say President Bush must work harder before next month's scheduled Senate vote to pass the Federal Marriage Amendment that would define marriage as between a man and a woman, and some even say the White House is sending all the wrong signals on the issue.

"The only thing we're hearing now from the administration are either comments that are totally opposed to the amendment or those that appear to be opposed to the amendment," said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council. "The president needs to speak to the issue just as passionately as he did in the campaign."

Conservatives said Mr. Bush could stand to push the Federal Marriage Amendment, especially given his faltering support among his base and the widespread support for defining marriage as the union of a man and a women.

"It's always useful for him, as well as the issue, when he can identify with something that has 70-75 percent support, in contrast with some of the other issues right now," said Gary L. Bauer, president of American Values, referring to issues such as the president's position on immigration.

1. Anything to get the people to the polls
It's a sure sign of a failed presidency when your own party doesn't turn out. They need something to get the two minutes hate going.

His immigration policy is far too liberal for the folks they're trying to reach, but this is something everyone on the extreme right can get behind.

Also, why mess with a winning formula? There's always a wedge issue. What will be interesting is seeing if KKKarl will be able to manage this election cycle from prison.

2. That's right, you frickin' conservatives, legalize discrimination!
Message to all people who consider themselves conservative Christians:

You know this is wrong. You are picking out a group of people and attempting to pass laws that discriminate against them. Would Jesus do that? Would he approve of your actions if he were walking here on Earth? Would he feel gay people should be treated differently just because they're gay? Think about it.

I think we all know the answer to that one. He would love gays just the same as everyone else, no exceptions.

Be honest. Hatred, discrimination, and condemnation are not Christian values. In fact, they are forbidden in The Bible. You can't cherry pick your beliefs, you either believe or you don't. You can't have it both ways, and YOU will have to answer for your actions someday.

Think about that before you proceed with this un-Christian, un-American action. You can't undo it once done, and when you have to explain your actions to a power bigger than you and me, it will be too late.

3. I think they'll be disappointed
In the past five and a half years he's let them have some judges, no constitutional changes, one sc judge, and now that his brain is concentrating on his own problems I can't see his other babysitters letting him anywhere near the political process.

4. Boy George doesn't care about social issues.
His only reasons for continuing his presidential charade is to make sure rich people & corporations don't have to pay taxes and perpetual war, once again for corporate profits. The fundie mouth-breathers haven't caught on to this yet, it seems.

5. You can see the frothing around the mouth beginning to start.
From the May 16th Family Research Council email:

I should also point out that the President has not given a prime-time address on the marriage amendment. It's not that we are demanding this, but when the First Lady is disparaging the issue and when the Vice President lets stand unrebutted Mary Cheney's claims, we think some demonstration of Presidential leadership is warranted--and overdue.

6. If there were a Federal Amendment were passed and sent to the states for
approval - wouldn't that take away their motivation for running to the polls?
