2 coalition soldiers killed, 8 wounded in Afghanistan
Two soldiers were killed when a suicide attacker rammed an explosives-laden car into a coalition vehicle in Afghanistan, officials said Saturday after reports that two Canadian soldiers had been injured.

Eight more coalition soldiers were wounded and Afghan civilians were killed in the two-pronged attack near the main coalition base in Kandahar, said police and a coalition spokesperson, according to the Associated Press.

Earlier, a local government said that two Canadian soldiers were wounded, said the news agency. However, it's not known if the soldiers who were killed were Canadian.

Maj. Scott Lundy, of the U.S.-led coalition forces in Kandahar, said a coalition convoy was attacked by a suicide car bomber and that there were casualties among soldiers in one of the vehicles, the agency said.

C'mon, Afghanistan is just so three Friedmans ago. Get hip, the real carnage and profit is happening in Israel, Lebanon and Palestine!

2. Oh, shit.
One of my oldest friends goes out w/convoys based out of Kandahar. He's an American soldier, though.

Whoever was killed and injured, what a tragedy. I can't believe how much worse it's gotten so quickly in Afghanistan.

5. Kandahar is where most of the Canadians are based
So there is a fair chance that we could have some coffins coming home. Or the U.S. could.

8. I am so very, very sorry, mourningdove92
I know there are no words to comfort you, to take away your fear, just know your son, your family will be in my thoughts as are all the families who's loved ones are sent into the hellholes that are Afghanistan and Iraq until they are safely back home.

7. Two Canadian soldiers dead
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- Two Canadian soldiers were killed and eight others injured Saturday, at least one seriously when a suicide bomber rammed a vehicle packed with explosives into a coalition vehicle in Kandahar City.

Eight Afghan civilians were also wounded in the blast.

Military officials have not yet released the names of the dead and injured.

"I can confirm that two coalition soldiers were killed and eight wounded in the suicide attack," said coalition spokesman Major Scott Lundy.

9. Thanks for the update, CHIMO, I was pretty sure the two dead were
Canadians given the majority injured were identified as Canadians, now I know for sure. My sadness just continues to grow and grow.

10. Bit Strange
That it is not in the Globe or CBC.

If true, I am suspecting that they have all known but have chosen to wait for the Canadian announcement which usually comes after next of kin have been notified.

12. Yes, that is how I gauge the likelihood of the dead being Canadian
by how long it takes our national papers to identify the nationality. It seems, to me at least, if the dead are other than Canadian, the Canadian media is quicker to identify the nationality.

2 Canadian soldiers killed, 8 wounded in Afghanistan

Two Canadian soldiers were killed and eight others were wounded Saturday in one of two suicide bombing attacks in Afghanistan near the coalition base in Kandahar.

Cpl. Francisco Gomez, 44, of the Lord Strathcona's Horse of Edmonton and Cpl. Jason Patrick Warren, 29, of Montreal's Black Watch Royal Highland Regiment were killed, while the eight wounded were also Canadians, CBC News reports.

Six Afghan civilians were also killed in the bombings, it was reported.

11. The only place you will
even read about this is either here or some other site. Now that is a shame when we got Americans being killed daily in Iraq and more now in Afghanistan, but oh the media is 24/7 with this unrest in the middle east.
Heard for the first time yesterday Anderson Cooper on CNN say something about this leading to World War 111 in a promo. I have a feeling the media hopes, (hell Fox News is actually promoting it as this already), prays this will turn into more then what it is. That is a damn shame too.....

13. The media is breathlessly hyping this as they did the invasion of
Iraq, it is despicable, imo. I, too, feel like the worse this gets, the happier they will be.
