Torture rampant in Iraqi prisons, streets, UN says

UNITED NATIONS, Sept 20 (Reuters) - Torture is rampant in Iraqi detention centers and in the widespread sectarian killings seen across the country, the United Nations reported on Wednesday, based on the signs of abuse on victims' bodies.

"Detainees' bodies show signs of beating using electrical cables, wounds in different parts of their bodies including in the head and genitals, broken bones of legs and hands, electric and cigarette burns," the human rights office of the U.N. Assistance Mission in Iraq said in a new report.

Bodies found in the Baghdad morgue "often bear signs of severe torture including acid-induced injuries and burns caused by chemical substances, missing skin, broken bones -- back, hands and legs, missing eyes, missing teeth and wounds caused by power drills or nails," the report said.

The signs of widespread torture are confirmed by reports from surviving eyewitnesses, the rights office said. One individual, for example, said members of a Sunni extremist group beat him with electrical cables and iron bars to make him disclose the Muslim sect he belonged to.

6. Deeply saddening. Insane.
We might have to go back in once this piece of filth in the White House is out. But in the meantime, those poor people.

There is so much unneccisary suffering. This administration has brought suffering to the world where it did not exist in such severity. Shame.

7. If Barbara Bush had an ounce of humanity in her, she'd stop her son.
If we had a group of people with an ounce of hero in them, they'd literally use physical force to storm the white house and demand an end to this madness. Not just blabbing and being polite. Even Bill Clinton is occupied with being civilized with H.W. Bush. Shame on all of them.

Notice the report mentions that the problem of torture in Iraq is worse than under Saddam.

Are they still going to welcome us as "liberators"? :sarcasm:

Are they?

Mr. Cheney?
