Arar wants off

OTTAWA - Maher Arar called on Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Wednesday to take up his case personally with U.S. President George W. Bush.

Arar said he wants his name removed from the U.S. government's border watch list, after the report released Monday by Justice Dennis O'Connor cleared him of any terrorist ties.

''Mr. Harper could raise this directly with President Bush and just ask him to remove me from this list. It's that simple,'' Arar said in an interview with CanWest News Service.

...

Arar said Wednesday he would like the U.S. government to publicly declare he is not a terrorist, and he wants Harper to lodge a formal complaint with the United States government over their treatment of him.

1. That is the very LEAST that our government should
be doing for this man. Bush should be publicly kissing his ass to apologize for what they did to an innocent man.

3. An apology is probably not forthcoming.
That would be admitting we did something wrong. This administration does not do that.

2. They'll probably say the torture has made Arar into a threat.
Since he might harbor feelings of revenge.

4. That would be a sick thing for them to say, but I can see it.

5. It's a secret list
and we can't tell you whether you are on it or not.

However, if you try to get on a plane and wake up in Syria with jumper cables attached to your scrotum, you might be on the list.
