U.S. Vehicle Hit by Rocket in Baghdad (2 Soldiers Possibly Killed)
Edited on Mon Jul-21-03 04:06 AM by bluestateguy
BAGHDAD, Iraq (Reuters) - A U.S. military vehicle was blown up on Monday in Baghdad, apparently by a rocket-propelled grenade, and at least two soldiers riding in it may have been killed, a journalist who witnessed the event said.

Isn't it time to bring our boys home? Why is the smirk still smiring while riding around in trucks on his dirt farm?

2. So many of these sound the same...
...it's difficult to determine what's a new report, and what is just a delay in reporting something we'd heard whispers of hours ago. Bush may find this to be an acceptable loss to secure the oil fields, but at 10 billion a month and how many soldiers and Iraqi civilians now? Bush should be tried in the ICC.

9. Isn't that awful?
With the impersonal way that the media has (intentionally I think)reported these deaths, it makes it difficult to have an accurate count of the number of people we have lost.

We'll never know the real number of Iraqis who were killed, and if this administration has its way, we may never know the death count of our own soldiers either. They learned a lesson from the mistake of the Nazis- don't leave a paper trail or evidence of the real number of dead.

We should not blind by our own mass distraction media. There are very disturbing news from Iraq and Afganistan in recent days. I hope they are just enemy propoganda, but can not help think what if they are true.
For example, in Afganistan More Taliban Attacks, Many More Casualties(Over 16)

And in Iraq: Arab Mujahideen Wage Major Slaughter In Karbala
(Over 19)>

29. Thanks for that link, Oh SHITE! It confirms what I just heard on NPR
"An Iraqi interpreter working with Coalition soldiers was also killed in the incident."

A friend of mine's stepdad is in Iraq as an interpreter.

That sucks. Whether it's my friend's stepdad or not. It all sucks.

20. "Israel earned its bigotry"???
Hey at least you're honest about Israel's bigotry and vicious racism towards Arabs, although you're obviously misguided on the history of the region.

I bet you also think the murder of Rachel Corrie was a "mistake" too, yes? And the attack on the Liberty was an "accident", and god knows what excuse you might have for the Lavon Affair.

Yeh, and America is in Iraq to "liberate" people from the grip of Saddam Hussein. Go back to your CNN now.

25. uhhh...
Forgive my bigotry but the entire script being played out by Bush in the Middle East right now with the exception of the possibly toothless "roadmap" was designed by Perle first for Netanyahu before being repackaged for the US.

I honestly don't think Wolfowitz or any of the other neocons are doing anything directly to aid Israel to the detriment of the US. Their world view doesn't distinguish between either nations security and doesn't allow any introspection. The whole world is against Israel because they are Jews, not for a million and one other reasons, Wolfowitz is Deputy Secretary because he's Jewish (he has said that repeatedly), blah, blah.

19. I think it's time we start demanding that the American media
Edited on Mon Jul-21-03 01:23 PM by CafeToad
Pay tribute to our fallen soldiers by giving coverage to their ceremonial return to American soil.

Sample letter I'm working on for wide-spread distribution:

Dear Media Outlet:

I recently came across a website where the BBC tastefully honors their fallen soldiers when they return home, see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/photo_gallery/2929823.stm .

I am very troubled that your organization is not providing a similar tribute to our fallen soldiers. Surely you can spare five minutes a day from your non-stop coverage of rather trivial matters such as the Kobe Bryant affair and the Laci Peterson investigation to portray the return of our war dead to American soil. Instead our soldiers die invisibly, with no recognition whatsoever. I don't mean to sound overly harsh, but I find it morally reprehensible that your network, which has played up the war for all it's worth, does not even provide a minimal tribute, such as the BBC provides for their country's troops - I have not seen a single picture such as the one shown below for our troops - WHY NOT!!

22. That is the way to keep us informed of Important Issues
The most important thing for them are sex and scandals. Not the life and death our fellow soldiers. I demand return of all soldiers in Iraq, they are in the sea of hostile islamic population, they do not welcome us.

I'm still working on trying to portray the right combination of righteous indignation but, at the same time, keeping the level of obnoxiousness relatively low (the latter is difficult).

I've heard that the Bush administration refuses to let the media show the bodies as they're returned to Dover - if nothing else I hope that my current emailing efforts will provide confirmation of this fact (so far, I've found that big media outlets only send back canned responses that don't address this issue directly - and local, small town outlets actually send back personalized replies - but they are powerless to do anything without the newsfeeds from AP (or where ever they come from) and are generally light years behind the DU curve in actually knowing what's going on in the world.

On edit - once I get the letter polished, I'll probably post it over in the general discussion forum in case it will help encourage a general letter writing campaign.

31. Media links - please?
I apologize if it's in poor taste to reply to my own post, but I was looking for the long list of email addresses to lots of media outlets that occassionally gets posted on DU.

I already tried to find it on Google - I thought it was under 'media blast' or something like that, but all that that search pulled up was stuff on industrial abrasives.

OK, thank you for the help!

24. We've now surpassed the Gulf War I fatalities
And I can believe it because of his extreme arrogance, lack of compassion, and immaturity, but it's really disgusting that Bush said "bring it on." He thinks this is a game, like his dad did. Any reasonable person would have prayed for as few casulties as possible while saying the mission will continue - a corrupt mission at that.

30. I don't believe the story as reported by CNN, Iraqis came and cut their
seat bets and saved 2 soldiers but then ran away because they didn't want to be seen.

1. I've never been a soldiers but I know ALL semi-extreem sports standard equipment is a quick release, 1 hand, knife. So the soldiers would cut themselves out of the fire within seconds.

2. I don't believe any Iraqi would run to the vehicle within seconds for fear of another hit. (So we have Iraqis 'Rambo' risking their lives for Americans? I don't think so.

3. I believe the Iraqis would stick around for a pay-off. That's the way things get done in less developed countries.
