Pay attention the part about creating an Iraqi militia force. Does anybody remember the Vietnamization program of thirty-five years ago?

3. Yup.
:-)

And an Ayatollah who can capture the rage of the people of Iraq over their conquest and occupation.

We have created a very serious new enemy.

4. This sounds familiar.... remember Vietnam's strategic hamlet program?
"An Iraqi militia will be a localized effort to assist local governors in running their areas; it will assist coalition forces on an as needed basis to put an Iraqi face on things," said Marine Lt. Gen. James T. Conway in Hilla, south of Baghdad.

Resisting the temptation to compare the "local governors" to Star Wars's military governors, does this sound like the first step to establishing a Vietnam-style strategic hamlet program?
