ILION — Remington Arms told its employees this morning it is freezing its pension plans beginning in January 2008, union officials said this morning.

The move means the company will not increase benefit payments to retirees after that date, The company is making the move to improve its cash reserves, said Dan Bass, international representative for the United Mine Workers of America.

The move currently affects only management employees at the company’s local plant, Bass said, because Remington must negotiate with the United Mine Workers to make any changes for unionized employees. Bass said those negotiations will begin in June 2007.

5. let me hook you up with my 300 ultra mag,
and 89 grain loads. when your knocking out 1" MOA at 300 yards you may change your mind.

I like the 200 grain spitzer ultrabonds over the nozler partions though.

My 870 aint bad for a cheap sabot slug chucker.

8. This info. should be touted as the best reason for being union.
They can bargain for rights. Without them your on your own, and vulnerable.

6. Pensions are a thing of the past. More and more companies are
getting out of that business. Too expensive and if you leave the company - before you're vested anyway, you get zilch . I like the
portable option and eventually would like to see the pensions for congress, senate and state government go away. If private companies won't offer them anymore, why in the hell should my taxes go to finance a government employee's pension?

7. it's hard to imagine why anyone would want to NOT be in a union....
This is just another example of how organization protects workers.

9. Typical...at least they're talking about management pensions for a change
Unions didn't come out of nowhere. They grew out of massive corporate offenses towards workers.

Time for unions to make a comeback, I think. And I'm not normally even really a "union" guy.
