By Jason Szep

HARTFORD, Connecticut (Reuters) - Energized by a big poll lead over his anti-war rival, Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman punched the air with his fist as he arrived at a campaign rally at a Cajun diner to cheers of "Let's go Joe."

Just over a week before the November 7 election, the 2000 vice presidential nominee, who lost the Democratic primary because of his support for the Iraq war, appears headed for a fourth term on the strength of 18 years in the Senate and stances on issues such as health care.

"We feel optimistic," Lieberman, running as an independent, told supporters as he campaigned last week with Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana at the Rajun Cajun diner.

Although he counts on support from Republicans to win, Lieberman insists he remains a loyal Democrat and will side with the party during Senate leadership votes.

2. O Rly?

3. "Let's go Joe"
Says it all. This dickhead is looking after his own ass and not the people of Conneticut.

4. Fact check
"High-profile Democrats such as Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama have campaigned with Lamont, but Lieberman has been flanked by Republicans and Democrats alike, portraying himself as a politician who can make progress in a divided Congress."

NOT. Obama sent an e-mail period, and has not appeared with Ned (who's "wealthy", the reporter reminds us. Again.)

9. Connecticut is the epitome of the "moderate" state
Lieberman's personal non grata among people left-of-center, but he's careful not to appear as "right-of-center". Connecticut voters don't like right or left, just middle. Lamont's a one-issue candidate: Iraq War. Rightly or wrongly, the voters in Conn. view him as an "activist".

16. He is NOT a one-issue candidate.
You are now advocating against (and lying about) him, and that is a violation of DU rules.

6. Loserman. Winnerman. His name is mud with the party.
It better stay that way no matter who controls the Senate in January.

Hear me, Governor Dean?

11. AGAIN QUOTING AN OLD POLL!!! sorry about the caps..
the Q-Poll( a Lieberman supporter runs the Q-poll) is prior to the last two debates and the only more recent poll is a Rasmussen that shows an 8 point spread and Schlesinger gaining. In over 100 contacts doing phone banking our town Dem. committee found it leaning Lamont.

12. The final debate gives a chance to frame ...
... the election.

Lamont's message is simple enough:
1) If you want to support the President's war in Iraq, vote Schlessinger
2) If you want to support the President's war in Iraq, and can't bring yourself to vote Republican, there is a third party candidate you can vote for
3) If you want the President held accountable, I'm asking for your support.

13. May he drop dead and burn in Hell for all eternity!
He sided with the war criminal Bush and as such has become an accomplice in war crimes.

14. It certainly appears that he will win this. Unfortunately.
But I take a small amount of comfort in the fact that from now on, every single appeasement vote with the Bush cartel will be remarked on. Every time he caves (again) it will call into question his loyalty -- not necessarily to party, which a great many people don't care about, but to Democratic ideals. The wondering about whether he ought to call himself a Dem won't go away because he heads back to DC. Nor will his lack of constituent care be forgotten -- especially by many who "stuck with Joe".

15. I've held back my comments on this race....
....because I'd like to respect the rights of the people of Conneticut in choosing their leaders. But as Michael J. Fox said recently, "not all politics are local."

For any Democrat in Conneticut to support Joe Lieberman given the likely impact of the Repukes retaining control of the Senate as a result, is unconscionable. Voters there who do so, are no more a "Democrat" than he is.

But at least the motto of the state of Conneticut makes more sense to me now:

"Qui transtulit sustinet" ("He Who Is Transplanted Continues to Sustain")

CITIZENS OF CONNETICUT, REJECT THIS TRANSPLANT!!!!!
