Stéphane Dion elected as new leader of the Canadian Liberal Party
Edited on Sat Dec-02-06 06:31 PM by Wonk
4th and final ballot results at the Liberal Party Leadership Convention are

4,625 votes cast, 20 ballots spoiled, 4,605 votes counted

50% + 1 needed to win.

Stéphane Dion: 2,521
Michael Ignatieff: 2,084

Announced live just now on CBC NewsWorld.

This link should be updated with the final results shortly.

This is a somewhat surprising result, as Dion was in third place while Ignatieff was in first place after the first ballot yesterday.

3. I am thrilled!
He was the one who I wanted and will be a formidable prime minister.

Funny statement he made during his speech--
He said something along the line that Steven Harper mimicks his hero in the US so much that George Bush should be getting royalties.

I am delighted.

4. I am pleased it is Dion....
I much preferred him over Ignatieff and Rae. I think he will make a fine leader and an even better Prime Minister.

Perhaps get the quebecers to trust them again. His decency reminds me of Leveque.
