‘Saddam faces quick execution, no monument’
(AFP)

BAGHDAD - Saddam Hussein and two top aides convicted with him will be executed immediately after an appeals court confirms their sentences and may be buried in secret, an official said on Tuesday.

A senior Iraqi government official said he fully expected the judicial panel studying the ousted dictator’s appeal to confirm death sentences on Saddam, his half brother Barzan Al Tikriti and a former judge, Awad Al Bandar.

“We are considering the possibility of executing the three, Saddam, Barzan and Bandar at one time on the same day,” the official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity because the court is supposed to be independent.

“We may bury Saddam at a secret location,” he said.

“His body may later be handed over to his relatives, as under Muslim rituals we can exhume the body after it is buried. But one thing the government will ensure is that there is no memorial built for Saddam anywhere in Iraq.”

2. If there's a Karl Rove....
type in Iraq, politicians/dictators in the future will build their careers on bringing back the "good old days" under Saddam. He'll be hailed as a martyr who died fighting the hated infidel Americans. There's one thing we do well with our foreign policy, and that's create martyrs.

Quick and in secret, no surprise here. So how will we know if they actually did kill Saddam? We won't, just like OBL.

9. That says it all really ...

> and may be buried in secret, an official said on Tuesday.

> ... the official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity because

Ah, you've got to love that Nazi justice haven't you?

No embarrassing secrets about the current & past US Administrations.
No "I told you so" about the ongoing f-up in Iraq.
Just a quick bullet to the back of the head and an anonymous burial.

Stalin would have been proud. Pol Pot is approving the process of law.
George W Bush is smirking and the world turns away in disgust.

12. Any word on when the appeals court is going to issue a ruling?
BTW, I found this wording disturbing: "...will be executed immediately after an appeals court confirms their sentences..."

Saddam Hussein should have been tried at the Hague.

18. Appeals? Shmappeals!
Who do you think he is? Ken Lay? Shilling?

There are no appeals for "Bad Guys" (tm) ... even ones that the
US Administration actively supported for years ...

> Saddam Hussein should have been tried at the Hague.

Exactly right but it was never going to happen ... far too much
risk of the "wrong" answers being given and publicised.

20. Saturday, supposedly
It's been pretty cryptically announced by the Iraqi government, but best I can tell, the appeals court will announce its ruling Saturday, followed (according to this anonymous source) by an immediate execution. The law in Iraq is that the execution MUST take place within 30 days after the appeals panel affirms the sentence, but I don't think there's any minimum amount of time that must elapse.

So he's probably got less than three days left among us. Bye, Saddam. Thanks for nuttin'.

The Kurds are going to be pissed off if they execute him. They want a verdict on the "Al Anfal" Kurdish genocide trial first. The case he was convicted on was the mass murder of a Shiite village, after an attempted assassination.

19. yet more proof of what a sick sad joke BUSHCO. 'justice' truly is
"will be executed"

"fully expected... ...confirm death sentences"

"...a secret location"

"...no memorial"

this REALLY sounds like something that only the childish mind of BUSH could have thought up. bush was the guy who had saddams childrens corpses propped up and put on display and who put saddam in a giant CRIB at his trial.

24. I bet you all my marbles that moron* fully believes that as soon
as Saddam is dead, everything will quiet down in Iraq.

Call in intuition, a feeling, a vibe what have you, but lets face it, moron* just isn't that deep and is pretty simple in his* feelings and emotions.

Yes, he* is that stupid.
