CNN/AP: For Bush, victory is still the only option in Iraq
For Bush, victory is still the only option in Iraq
December 12, 2006

WASHINGTON (AP) -- While seeking a new course in Iraq, President Bush has not changed his tone about the stakes involved in the war, the importance of victory or his definition of success.

His public remarks in recent days have given no hint of the new direction that White House officials expect Bush will announce in a speech before Christmas. The president's comments sound much as they did in the weeks before the November elections, in which public unhappiness with Iraq was a big factor in the Republicans' loss of Congress.

"This is really the calling of our time -- that is, to defeat these extremists and radicals, and Iraq is a component part, an important part of laying the foundation for peace," the president said Monday....

On Monday, Bush went to the State Department for a 90-minute meeting to review options with advisers there, then hosted a handful of experts on Iraq policy in the Oval Office.

"Like most Americans, this administration wants to succeed in Iraq because we understand success in Iraq would help protect the United States in the long run," Bush said after his State Department briefing....

1. He just doesn't get it ...
... there is no possibility of victory because it was an undefined and open-ended mission to begin with. It's only going to get worser and worser.

BRING THEM HOME, NOW!!!

17. You know that has to be the most pathetic aspect of all of

18. Victory is that which leaves him unconvicted of war crimes.
At least that what it has now degraded to that. It used to be that which made his penis bigger than Poppy's, but the most he can hope for now is to avoid impeachment, conviction and a life sentence.

6. He wants victory? Fine!

Ok, for the sake of argument, there have been plenty of great leaders who stubbornly hung on and brought about favorable results through pure force of will. Churchill is just one example.

BUT...

This guy is NOT Churchill or any kind of remotely pale simulacrum. He talks about victory and "winning" and such, but he is patently incabable of LEADING. All he's doing is running out the clock to 2008, so he can leave office and forever after pretend that if we had but listened to him and "stayed the course" that we would have "won" in Iraq. That's the sum total of his strategery.

If he really wanted victory, if he truly believed it could be achieved, he would do something about it. Send more troops, engage in aggressive diplomacy, whatever. He'd DO it! But he won't do that, not only because he doesn't believe what he's saying, but also because he is the most imcompetent, least talented pinhead that has ever been inflicted upon this nation as our chief executive.

He's a LOSER.

9. My LTTE today to the NY Daily News:
To the Editor:

To find a solution to the mess in Iraq (Bush meets on war plan, 12/12), the President is now meeting with advisors at the State and Defense Departments -- the same advisors he's had there since the war began. Either they were unwilling to tell him the truth before now, or he was unwilling to listen. That's the real cause of the Iraqi mess.

10. someone should just tell him we won
it's not like he'd know any better. Just have an aide go up to him and say 'Mr. President, the news just broke, we won.'

And everyone else will play along.

14. In The Meantime.....
.... the taliban is retaking Afghanistan ( where our troops should have been, in force, for the past four years ) while total war in the middle east is right around the corner. Thanks, Decider.

16. Bush will not budge
The ISG report has already been put on a roll to have Cheney wipe Little Lord Pissypants' ass. The roll of "Constitution" has nearly run out - the Chimpster is quite full of it you see.

Meanwhile, things will continue downhill in Iraq. **%#% will become increasingly desperate for "victory", lest he loose his self-appointed image as the War President. I fear what a thing such as Bush is capable of doing.
